    Old Cartridge still great ?

The heyday of the .222 pre-dates my shooting days, but from what I gather, everyone was really hotrodding the .222 to get it to perform at it's best. Blowing out the shoulder and other modifications to get the velocity up, as well as running the case as hard as it would go and accepting short...

    Seating Depth Starting Point

Most people who shoot VLD bullets have them jammed, so you might want to start there. I think you are right in that the rifle should shoot much better with once fired cases. All of my belted mags did. I have had some brass (.300 Win Mag) that the shoulders were .040 short, and that does nothing...

.300 Win. Mag. Load With 210 Grain Berger VLD's?

I use IMR7828 with the 220gr Sierra MK and get excellent accuracy with 70grs. The charge will be different with the Berger, but not by much and that powder works great.

    Flag/Wheel Turbulance

There was a recent discussion on the effect of a bullet's wake on the air to the target and how long its effects lasted. Can't hardly believe that a bunch of spinning daisy wheels wouldn't account for something.

    "The Judge" Lead Removal

I used Remington 40X bore cleaner on a patch wrapped around a nylon brush to remove it from my .44 and it worked very well. I have also heard, but haven't tried, firing jacketed bullets to remove it.

    Doin' the Twist

Those 75gr bullets won't be stable from a 1-12" twist at any range. Sorry. I have found that 55gr bullets stabilize very well in a 1-12 twist, but much over that works better with 1-9".

    Performance of loads at 100, 200 yds . . . .

I would suggest shooting the 52gr bullet at 200 with some increases in the powder charge.

    Scope Frustation.

All I can tell you, is that after having that scope perform terrible in 4 set of mounts and not being able to adjust all of the parallax out, when it was put in a set of reamed and lapped mounts, the parallax was easily adjusted and the scope finally worked like it was supposed to. If a set of...

    That's your opinion.

    Scope Frustation.

I ream and lap all of my rings now. In my earlier post, I mentioned putting the scope in different sets of mounts. One set was the Burris rings with inserts that supposedly allow for misalignment. In short, they don't. After reaming and lapping the mounts, I could tell it was on the right track...

    Scope Frustation.

I had a similar experience with a Weaver T-36. I mounted it on 2 different rifles, and used 4 different mounts and still could not get it to shoot, even though the rifles shot well with other scopes. I was finally going to send it back and get checked out. Before I did, I bought a scope ring...

3 jaw set tru vs 4 jaw independant...

Maybe we should all just send our posts to you for proofreading since you seem to have put yourself in the position of moderator? You could determine fact from fiction, validity of opinions, etc. I know! You could get your own website and make your own rules there! Judging by the time it takes...

3 jaw set tru vs 4 jaw independant...

The 3jaw chuck that was purchased for our lathe was 2K. I was instructed to always loosen the screws in the face of the chuck to keep them from marring the interior surface of the chuck which would make it difficult to adjust in the future. Of course, that was after I had already left them snug...

3 jaw set tru vs 4 jaw independant...

Could you be any more condescending or arrogant Mike? I meant to say exactly what I said. I have been machining for 28 years. The lathe I use is just over 1 year old, as is the chuck. I'm not a novice operator on inferior equipment. The OP asked for opinions, not your opinion of other people's...

3 jaw set tru vs 4 jaw independant...

I prefer the 4 Jaw chuck. A 3 jaw that is good enough to do chamber work with costs $2000. I can buy alot of reamers for that kind of money. If you are getting a 3 Jaw to save time, forget it. You still have to use the adjustments on the chuck to get a barrel blank down to .0001, and even the...

    Mark-ups simply shocking

I am near a Gander Mtn store and buying reloading components there is just crazy. They charge at least $5 more per pound of powder than anyone else locally, and they had a 250ct. box of 50gr BT's for $49 when they could be had elsewhere for $34. Overhead or not, if you can't compete pricewise...

Maybe the dumbest thing I've ever done...

Im not familiar with that die. Is the decapping pin held in with a collet style end? If so, it sounds like it got pushed up into the decapping rod to the point that it wasn't long enough to remove the primer without bottoming out on the web of the case. I had to replace a decapping rod once...

    Heavier bullets for longer ranges?

One thing to keep in mind is heavier bullets are longer which gives a better B.C., and that is where the improvement comes from, not just being heavier by itself. Out to 300yds. the bullet you are using, the 52gr SMK works well. The thing I would try is to change the load a little. Shooting at...
