    Ball micrometers?

I like my ball micrometer just fine, but does anyone use a Sinclair case neck sorting tool? It's pricey, but using a mandrel and a dial indicator, it seems like it would be faster to use.

    Bullet weld?

I don't see the cracked neck or damaged case. Perhaps my eyes aren't that good? What I do see is that the loads must have been quite stiff. Looks like the marks from the chamber reamer are engraved on the cases. He says 35 grains of varget, but who knows if the measurement was accurate. What I...

NASCAR moving left on gun rights

I see that a couple that was wonded at the Texas Wal-mart shooting has sued them. For what? Failing to protect them? I think that Wal-mart's decision about ammo was due to fear of lawsuits, but it may also be a publicity stunt aimed at looking like they are "doing something". I personally am...

Bought a Cool Old Rifle Today

OK, last post from me on this. So last weekend, I loaded up 50 rounds of the load mentioned above. This is probably a lifetime supply, but I'm as much into the possibilities as the doing. I saw a big fat doe in the yard today. I'll set a blind in the woods out back this weekend near where they...

    Questions

When I was a motorcycle guy..... I read or heard that "meticulous preparation is the modus operandi of professional motocross." I was not much of a motocrosser, but I did compete in enduros, and the same thing applies there. I'm not much of a benchrest shooter, but I think you will find highly...

Things You Should Avoid Doing When You Are Over 70.

Passing gas with impunity...... Is really not a good idea any more. You should take a moment or two to consider the true characteristics of said emission.;););)

Bought a Cool Old Rifle Today

Range results I appreciate the suggestions for Ventura Munitions ammo. However, with a bore this rough, I’m avoiding cast lead bullets. Also, they are kind of pricey. I had on hand 200 new Remington 32 special cases, so I’m dedicating 100 to the 32-40. The four Federal cases that I reformed I...

Bought a Cool Old Rifle Today

Dies came yesterday. Today I tried reforming 32 special brass. I had a few once-fired federal and 200 new old-stock Remington. Both reformed easily if I took it in stages and applied more Imperial wax about half-way through each case. The Remington came out a good bit longer, although not up to...

Bought a Cool Old Rifle Today

Thanks, Reed. I'll get it up there one day. I have dies coming Monday so will probably work up some loads before long. Jerry was right, there was a lot of rust. I finally decided that the faint blue I was getting on the patches was due to the bronze brush so I quit the Wipe-out. I patched it...

Bought a Cool Old Rifle Today

I continue to drag the brush through 4 times followed by a dry patch and then another squirt of wipeout foam about hourly. I don't know if it's carbon coming out or lead or both, but there's a lot of it.

Also neglected to mention that I plan to use a 32 special seater, of which I have two. I've been pushing out the Wipe-out from the breech with a jag and patch on a cable-cleaner. Patches are light blue now with some carbon. I just now dragged a brush through 4 times with the cable and it raised...

Bought a Cool Old Rifle Today

Sorry, I neglected to mention that it's a '94 Winchester. Thanks for the tip, but that's some pretty pricey ammo when I don't want to shoot lead bullets or anything that heavy. I have a lot of 32 special brass that I can reform. It will come out a bit short, but I don't plan to shoot it a lot...

Bought a Cool Old Rifle Today

In 1962, at age 11, I shot my first deer on my first day of deer hunting. It was a respectable 10 point buck. I drilled him through the lungs with a 165 grain slug form an ancient 32-40 that my Dad had bought a few years before for $10. This rifle was in decent shape and quite accurate. I even...

Advice Please – Old Cartridge, Modern Rifle

I finally got around to testing my loads. This cartridge is quite similar to the 6.5 Creedmoor. It has a similar shape and 96 percent of the capacity of the Creedmoor. I calculated my recent experimental loads based on 96 percent of Creedmoor loads. My rifle is basically a recent Steyr SBS in...

    Vintage Benchrest or Target Rifles

I neglected to mention, but you've probably found out already, that the .222 Mag is also the parent for the .204 Ruger. In fact, if you can't find .222 Mag brass, you can easily make it from the .204. I think it comes out a tad short, however.

    Vintage Benchrest or Target Rifles

I believe the .222 Remington Magnum was Remington's entry for a military cartridge that lost out to the 5.56x45 Nato. There is much info about this on the Web. Many, including Mike Venturino of Rifle Magazine, believe the .222 Mag is the best of the lot. One that campaigned it in benchrest...

    Kroil?

I don't have Kroil, but I have Liquid Wrench, which is likewise a penetrating oil. If I have stubborn carbon in the corners that WipeOut is not getting, I do some wet patches with it, with a wait in between - sometimes overnight. The Remington bore cleaner that you have to shake up really gets...
