300 win mag need all the information I can get

Thanks for the great replies. I don't doubt for a second that the .30-06 is more than capable of taking elk out to 300. I have a .270 that will shoot 1.5 @ 300 all day long. For walking around, timber and med range shots I'll be using the .270. When I say med-large game at extended ranges...

300 win mag need all the information I can get

A couple of things pushed me toward the 300. First of all the purpose of the rifle will be long range target shooting and hunting. When looking at ballistics, bullet velocity and bc's etc the 7mm and 300 win mag were pretty close, with a slight edge possibly going to the 7mm. However...

Thanks for the replies. Looks are not a consideration at all. Right now it's between the Harrells, Holland, and Fat Bastard.

    most effective muzzle break?

Which break, or type of break is the most effective at reducing felt recoil. Not shooting prone or with others beside me.

300 win mag need all the information I can get

After looking long and hard at all the available options decided on a 300 win mag for my long range hunting/target rifle. Picked up a pre accu-trigger Savage 116 SS as a donor. Looking to replace the barrrel witha 26-30" with a break. Best places to look? Will also replace the stock, it's...

accuracy potential of .300 win mag vs .30-06

Tried a search sorry if this has been covered. For shooting from 400-1k yards does one have the advantage over the other? Both shoot the same bullets, the .300 win having the edge on velocity. Does using a belt hurt the .300 win? Leaving recoil out of the equation, supposing 26" heavy...

    Getting Started-Savage Rifles

For very simmilar reasons I bought a Savage MKII BV and couldn't be happier. It has shot in the 1s for both my wife and I at 50 yards. I usually can't do that well but like you said, it's the Indian not the arrow.

    .270 accuracy update

justjeff, thanks for the reply. Glad to hear others shooting the .270 for accuracy. Was going to use the 1:10 twist in order to shoot the heavier 150, 160grn bullets. Berger makes a 150grn VLD with a .531 bc that looks promising and Hornadys 150 grn SST has a .525. What action are you using...

    .270 accuracy update

Thanks again for the great replies. Think we've pretty much reached the point of diminishing returns with this rifle. So have decided to build a target/varmint .270. Plan at the moment is to use a Savage long action, Shilen or simmilar 26" heavy barrel 1:10 twist, Sharp Shooter Supply...

    .270 accuracy update

This is my hunting load for mulies, elk and pronghorns. Really wish the bullet companies would offer a better selection of high quality match bullets for the .270.

    .270 accuracy update

350 yards. 100 yards. The .270 continues to amaze me. Tried some lighter bullets and they did not perform well. Have a 9.5 22" barrel so don't think that was the issue. The 135 Sierra MKs did well but these 140grn Nosler BTs have been the best by far.
