    question about value Grizzly G4003

I would say go ahead and post some pics of the lathe and the tooling and where you are located (just the state will be sufficient). It may be worth more to the people in your area because there are so few of them to be had. Tooling can really make a difference in the value: collets, taper...

Shooting partner John Boughton passes away.

I am sorry for your loss, James. There is nothing quite like a shooting buddy (a phrase so simple but carries a greater meaning) and I imagine trips to the range won't be the same. My thoughts are with you, Mike

    Ear protection request

Howard leight ear plugs 33db rating and same company impaxt sport muffs for low profile style. We have switched to the impact pro and the plugs and are very happy except that the amplification of sound is not as good with the pros. This means that normal conversation with the plugs and muffs...

    Rail Gun prints

Bill, I am following this thread with interest because 1) I love to see diy projects from talented individuals 2) I shoot benchrest and have always dreamed of owning/building a rail gun 3) I am a very amateur hobby machinist 4) I live in CT and would love to find out where you will be shooting...

    Full length sizing die fail

Would the fact that the reamer becomes unsupported after about 1/2" of introducing it to the blank cause the oversizing? My second attempt with the ptg blank went very well and it has a through hole the lengh of the die. Well...perhaps a relative term, but for as well as I am able to measure.

    Full length sizing die fail

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the info and the lesson in the why as well as the how. Looks like a small boring bar is in order. I will give it a go and see how we do on the next go round. Mike

    Full length sizing die fail

I am hoping to learn from my mistake and understand better why my attempt failed. I bought a newlon blank that was externally threaded, had a pilot hole for the reamer and was already drilled and tapped for the decapping assy. I dialed in the die blank to as close to zero as I was able to...

Action to forend of stock parallelism

Had a popular makers stock in the mill and noted that the pillars that were installed by the maker were easily .200 off set from each other in relation to the forend...rear pillar higher than the front pillar. 1) is this typical? 2) what is the rationale? My first thought is reduced perceived...

    Lyman Digital Borescope

I read somewhere that the mirror was a reflective piece of plastic and not an actual mirror. Is this the case? The reviewer said that he rubbed off the reflective finish....it is what made me pause from purchasing. I am very much interested in this unit if the quality is good enough for non...

    Wind Flags

I use and highly recommend Graham flags or flying fish fundamentals flags...or any of the other flags marketed here by benchrest shooters. If you haven't been to a match yet I would try to attend one and see what catches your eye. In the last few seasons I have come to appreciate flags a great...

    NJ vs CT grudge match

update on grudge match Lightening strikes and thunder claps could be heard for miles as the two clubs descended upon the Bell City range this past Saturday and prepared for battle. Hoping the clash would end soon, Zeus himself laid down his shield and ran for cover in fear of being caught in...

    NJ vs CT grudge match

NJ vs CT grudge match - clash of the Titans There was no love lost between these two benchrest behemoths as they clashed on this 10th day of October 2015 a.d. The day greated us with cool temps in the high 40's and slowly crept up to the low 60's by 12pm. The cool New Jersey breeze kept things...

pics of my first benchrest build in progress

I wanted to report that the 220 beggs has been performing really well for us so far. We just had a range session today and were able to get it tuned to shoot in the mid 1's when the flags hold steady. It was a fairly tricky day to shoot for us as the wind never really held steady for more than...

    Rear rest/bag design question

What about something with an air bearing for the first inch of recoil and then a cushion or damper to catch the mass of the stock and enable it to return to battery. When I conceive this rest the air would be supplied like an air hickey table mot necessarily a cylinder but maybe that would...
