    Need advice testing ammo.

I am fortunate to have access on off days to an indoor 100 yard CF rifle range. I am only buying 22 RF ammo through one source. I get the ammo inventory list and then get two boxes each of a number of brands and versions, but only those that have a significant back up of inventory of the same...

    Fireforming 220 russian to 6ppc!

You can also buy them fully prepped and hydro formed already. Being new to the 6PPC I have done this both ways. One of these days Harley Baker and I are going to meet up in Jersey and do some from scratch. Bob

Bob White's Short Ranger Benchrest School

Bob taught High School - Edison, New Jersey. (Incidentally where my mother went with Jerry Lewis). I am not sure he teaches Gunsmithing now, but he would be a great gun to apprentice under. He also has an amazing amount of inventory, both new and used, tucked into his shop. Harley Baker is...

    Mixing Lots of Lapua Brass

I have mixed lots of Lapua brass in 220 Russian, 6.5x47L, .308, 6mmBR Norma, .22-250 and .221 Fireball. I trim them all(By caliber) to the same length and then weight them and sort them that way. May not be perfect, but I would think it would give some consistency. Bob

    Lens choices for cataract surgery

I am a commercial pilot and the FAA does not recommend doing different vision in different eyes. Though the seamless transition it what most people experience, it can cause some issues with depth-perception. I have a convergence issue and therefore still need Prism correction even though each...

    Practice versus match ammo.

When I buy .22 RF Match Ammo I get a list of the lots currently in stock by the supplier I will be using (usually the same one all the time). I will then buy a few boxes from each lot that has plenty of inventory. Why get some ammo that shoots really well and not be able to get more. Then as...

    Practice versus match ammo.

Both of my BR Quality RF Rifles shoot the best with less than the most expensive ammunition. Just have to fine out what works best for your rifle. May not be $18.00 a box. Bob

    Practice versus match ammo.

I practice with what I have found my RF Benchrest Rifles like to eat. I am a bad enough shot and wind reader, to further handicap myself by using less accurate (in my rifles) ammo that might give me false results. Bob

More trouble for the formerly golden state

I am afraid that this is going to happen in New York soon too. When I was living in down town Chicago, Lincoln Park Shooting Center got shut down manly based on the fact that all the shooting was over water and there was serious deposits of lead in Lake Michigan around the gun club. Same thing...

    Remington 40X

My 6BR Target Master was ordered initially from the Custom Shop at Remington and when the move was made to Dakota, Ward Dobler called me from Dakota to review the specifications I wanted. They even ordered a specific reamer for my build as they had received on the 6BR Remington Version. Then...

    Remington 40X

Tim just told me that his predecessor, Mike Walker, did in fact use some Hart Barrels on Custom Shop builds, prior to Tim taking over, but during Tim's reign, only Remington , make in house, barrels were used. Bob

newbie question about the bench setup at my range

My first time around I went the cheap route through Amazon and it was almost impossible to lock the height in tight enough on the Drummer's Throne, that I bought, so that it would not slip down after a few ups and downs. Finally went to a Musical Equipment store here in Manhattan and tried a...

    Remington 40X

Talked to Tim McCormack yesterday. He was at the custom shop and his last position was the General Manager there before he retired. During is 20+ Years there, all Barrels were made in house by Remington. They started with steel blanks and bored, rifled, finished and chambered them. That included...

    Remington 40X

I just reached out to my friend Tim McCormick and asked him what barrels were used on the 40Xs during his time at Remington and especially during all his years at the Custom Shop, where he retired from after become the custom shop General Manager as his last position.

    Remington 40X

When I talked to the new gang at The Custom Shop Division at Dakota Arms, they said that New York shipped them the barrel making equipment that the custom shop had been using, but none of their smiths had barrel making experience so they were offering after market barrels Bob

    Remington 40X

I know that when the custom shop moved to Dakota Arms they stopped using Remington Barrels, but before it moved even the Custom Shop 40Xs used Remington Barrels. My last Custom Shop 40X came from the Dakota operation and it has a Krieger Barrel. Can you even get a Non-Custom Shop 40X any more? Bob
