Check Out The Latest Addition to Our Shop.....

Interesting I just had a conversation with a couple shop owners about drill sharpeners and they both said it wasn't worth the time and effort. I imagine in your industry you might use drills large enough to make it worthwhile. That's a nifty bit of 'old iron' in any case. GsT

    Shooting The FX Impact MKII

Found this with a quick search: https://www.trrobb.com/product/adjustable-pellet-sizer-177, but the one I was thinking of came as a tray with a backing tool, but I'm unable to find it at the moment. I have tried neither - just trying to ride your coattails to better accuracy. GsT

    Shooting The FX Impact MKII

Any pellet prep? Are you sorting pellets, washing & lubing, or skirt forming? I'm wondering if you could weed out that 'spiraling flyer' ahead of time. GsT

    Dial indicator rod info needed

There are at least two different kinds of rods you can use. You can use a "Gordy rod" which is typically 10-12" long and requires support from the tailstock chuck at the back end and is thinner than the bore for its full length, or you can get a "range rod" - which is the shorty you describe...

Bolt design Bix and Andy Centerfire

Interesting The roller-bearing sleeve looks interesting. Everything else I see looks cosmetic, but I may be overlooking something. I can't quite figure out the cocking piece - is that an o-ring? GsT

    Mini Mauser project

Interested I, for one, would be interested in seeing how this goes. It's always satisfying to take a problem gun and turn it into a shooter. Sounds like you're well on the way. GsT

how can i improve the finish of my bbl threading

Yes, I meant a slightly undersized (relative to the thread nominal major diameter) tenon. Thanks for clarifying. GsT

how can i improve the finish of my bbl threading

If you turn your starting point a few thou (0.010 - 0.020) undersized, you can skip filing the tops of the threads. I like Cratex (rubberized abrasive) for final polish - it's available in sticks (as well as bits and bobs for the Foredom/Dremel) that work great. GsT

looking for a PUMPKIN 30 cal turning mandrel

Ever since this thread popped up, I've been meaning to see how successfully I could make one. I'm planning a 3/8" hole, offset 0.0025 in a 1/2" round as a toolholder placed in a collet in a single-lip cutter grinder, then just grind the od to size. GsT

I didn't shoot any competitions last year, how are you handling the shortages?

Like most folks, I'd like to have my cake and eat it too, but that's a fair point. I used to keep about two years worth of shooting supplies, but I've let my stock dwindle in the last several banics hoping that prices would moderate again. I know we're never going to see primers at $16/1000...

    Tumblers?

Mine started out like Al's - except my container is rubber-lined steel... Here's what it looks like now:

    Tumblers?

I have a 1750 rpm motor, with a 1.25" pulley on the motor and a 4" pulley on the rotating shaft. The shaft is actually about 1.5" diameter, because I sleeved it with rubber foam for traction. That should be about 550RPM on the roller, which, with the 9.25" diameter container means about 90...

    Tumblers?

Thumler The Thumler rock tumblers are about the best available, and even they have a lot of shortcomings. Mine has evolved to the point that the container is the only original part left - bigger motor (I like to load that container...), bearings (as opposed to bushings), and sturdier shafts...

    borescope illumination

So, a long time ago I purchased a Hawkeye borescope. At the time (if recollection serves me) you could order, for extra $$, a rechargeable, larger flashlight to illuminate the borescope and I did. I've noticed no difference between the 'included' mini-maglite illuminator and the fancier...

    Bi-directional threads

My assumption is that he did that just so he could run the lathe at glacial speeds, where he otherwise wouldn't have the torque to take the cut conventionally. With that high helix you'd have to be pretty darned fast to stop a lathe at even 300 rpm. Then again, by the time the motor was up...

    A hopeful sign?

It's certainly not the norm... ...but I've had it happen to me, and everything worked out in the end (package 'found' and delivered). With any luck you'll get the same result, albeit a bit later than you would have liked. GsT
