A brief journey in accuracy troubleshooting

I think it would, but it might be the wrong solution the the problem. If your firing pin is striking or rubbing against something (other than the 'band' rubbing against the inside of the bolt) that's probably in need of correcting, rather than masking with a more lubricous surface. However...

    Shooting-Related, Autobiographical Snippets

These things take time. I'm sure I have a million + 3 stories, but it takes the right stimulus to bring them to mind. I've been a "gun guy" since I was a toddler. I didn't even realize that as a young adult, until one of my family members asked "Why does Gene have a gun in every photo?". I'd...

    Bolt shrouds

I have used Torlon in other applications, particularly for its dimensional stability over a wide temperature range (-40 to +125C), what are it's advantages over Delrin in this application? GsT

    Barrel installation question

Does this problem occur only when feeding from the magazine, or when single-loading as well? Reliable magazine feeding can be tough. Probably the easiest thing to do is play around with your OAL. Of course this isn't ideal, since you'd like to make those adjustments based on performance, but...

    Barrel installation question

What does your bolt nose look like? That's more than a chamfer on the conical breech, and it mates with a 'coned' bolt, not your typical '700 bolt. GsT

    Barrel installation question

It's absolutely a thing. Depending on the action and it's intended use, a chamfer is requisite. The degree of chamfer depends on whether the barrel will be used for a single shot or magazine fed, but there should always be something other than a sharp edge. GsT

Randolph / Fulghum, or JJ Industries / Jhon Loh , front rest.

Pretty sure that's an AI spambot. Even if the posts themselves aren't spam it's building up "credibility". The post in the M70 Jewel trigger thread reek of the kind of nonsense that is automatically generated. GsT

Neck Sizing a Heavy Straight-wall Case to a Bottleneck

The die was static - just a plate with chamfered holes. Lube was used, of course. They may have taken the holes in steps, I don't really recall, but the whole affair was distinctly crude. I would definitely anneal after neck forming if case life is at all a concern (using either method)...

Best Security Training Course in Brampton

I think the first five posts by any member here should go into a private area where they can be reviewed by five long-term members. I'm not sure how feasible that is, and I certainly don't want to place extra burden on the board administration, but a group of five could pretty well weed out the...

    M1a Issue

First, verify that it's short cycling. Check a mag to make sure that it holds the bolt open when empty (insert empty mag, cock - bolt held open? If yes, proceed... load a single round in the magazine, chamber it, and fire. Does the bolt hold open? If it does, it's probably not short cycling...

Neck Sizing a Heavy Straight-wall Case to a Bottleneck

I saw a video some years back where wildcats were being formed by chucking the case in a drill press holder and driving the neck into a chamfered hole of suitable diameter. This allowed for some dramatic reductions. I played with it a little, with no real need, and in a few short experiments...

    prvi priming problem

Sounds like you have crimped primer pockets. Either swage the pocket, or lightly chamfer the primer pocket with an RCBS case deburring tool or similar. GsT

    Cutting muzzle brake threads

Depends on the lathe, the firearm, and how much work you're willing to put into it. On a bolt-action removing the trigger (and scope) is usually sufficient. I threaded a PTR-9 (MP-5 clone) a while back - the front handguard, sight, magazine well - all a fragile stamping that's welded onto a...
