    Hall M Action

The original Hall's had two set screws on top of each other, just like a Bat does today, to lock the firing pin in place on the cocking piece. The Hall M that I had used a roll pin and you knocked the roll pin into the firing pin body then unscrewed the firing pin from the cocking piece. He...

    Luther,OK matches

The Midland match is normally the July 4th weekend. We had to move it back a week due to the WBC being held in Canada in July. The GC region is fortunate to have both Mike Conry and Gary Bristow who will be not only representing the US as team members, but they will also be representing the Gulf...

    Shading bench from the sun

Don Geraci made an adjustable sun shade with about an 18”x18” piece of Formica. It don’t remember exactly how it was made, but had a 1” dowel rod or two that slid up and down and let you turn the Formica how you wanted to rotate it. I bought one of them from him. Think I used it at the Crawfish...

    Remington 700 extraction issue

Make sure that the firing pin assembly is turned in all the way. It may lack a thread being turned in as far as it should be into the bolt body. I can’t think of a reason at all why threading a bolt knob would cause poor extraction.

Delrin Sleeves for Barrel Block ?

It would probably be cheaper to buy solid delrin and machine it to the dimensions you need. It's also easier and probably more accurate to machine the sleeves in several short sections such as 2" long rather than one long sleeve 8" in length.

    Gentler 6mm 65gr boat tails

Don Gentner at the NBRSA Nationals in Kansas City I was looking through some benchrest photos the other day and came across this photo of Don. Don passed away in 2015.

    Nightforc 42x44 comp

I have one of the 15 - 55's and a couple of the 42X's. For short range benchrest, there's no need for the low end power of the 15 - 55. The clarity of the scope on 55X is something else though. The 15-55 is heavy, but if they had a fixed power scope with a 55X then it would really be good...

    CPS action question

If you’ll get some long pins, it will make the trigger easier to change. If the pins are a little shorter than the width of the stock, then you can hold onto the pins while you guide them into the trigger holes. Then tap them with a punch to where they are just lower than the stock surface. The...

    Texas State Hunter 2019

It’s on here right now. But, it will be listed on the NBRSA web site when I get the match agreements back from the match directors. I’ll email the schedule out to all the GC Region members probably after Christmas some time or before if I can find the time. I need to make an email list on my...

    40x action trueing

You can turn a Remington into a very good shooting rifle. But, FWIW, if you’re going to go to the trouble of buying a 700 action, true up the action and either bush the rear of the bolt to close up clearances or ream the raceway and fit an oversized bolt, you’ll be close to the cost of some of...

    Action wrench

The best thing to do on a 788 is to take a parting cut in front of the recoil lug down to minor thread diameter and then use an around the receiver action wrench to remove the barrel. They put the factory barrels on very tight as well as using some kind of loctite on them. After the barrel is...

    2019 Gulf Coast Schedule

I sent out the match agreements to the various match directors last Friday. This should be the final schedule, but you can’t ever tell. The match at Huntsville in July is the first part of the Texas State VFS with the rest of it being held at Tomball.

    2019 Gulf Coast Schedule

This is pretty well the final version of the 2019 GC Region NBRSA schedule. I figured this schedule needed to be seen by the GC members as soon as possible as the first VFS match will be held at Walker County Benchrest in Huntsville in January. Not a lot of time between now and then. The...

    Texas State Hunter 2019

I have the GC Region schedule for 2019 finished. I’ll post it this afternoon. The first VFS/HTR match in the region will be at Walker County Benchrest in the middle of January. I don’t know the dates off the top of my head, but will post the complete schedule when I get back home this afternoon.

Scope that changes reticle for internally for compensation for bullet drop.

Not anything to do with Jackie’s post, but I recently had a custom turret made for a Leupold Vari-X3 CDS scope and gave it a workout Tuesday shooting prairie dogs. It worked pretty well. I chronographed how fast my loads were going with a Labradar. Measured the height of the scope from the...

A new NBRSA.org web site is in the works.

Has anyone seen the announcement at NBRSA.org? On the first page of the web site, there is a statement that a new web site is coming to NBRSA.org where shooters can come together, find out more about the sport, check out their scores and find places and matches to shoot and much more. Lee...

    Nbrsa

A letter was sent to Rodney after the directors meeting at Holton and to the clubs that had dropped out. This letter states basically that he is welcome to rejoin the NBRSA with full rights and privileges. No probationary membership or anything of the kind. If he wants to rejoin or not rejoin...

can you tell what trigger this is, and how to adjust it....

I've had quite a few 700's come into my shop where someone would back off the weight of pull screw until the spring was no longer under compression. It makes for a very dangerous trigger, but it's because of user error as a compression spring has to have some compression on it for it to work...
