    30BR FreeBore

I never said you want the end of the neck there. But you do need to find where the end of the chamber is.

    30BR FreeBore

For anyone interested...here's another reason that chamber length plug gauges leading end should be significantly larger than the bullet diameter. On this reamer print, the circled area is the tapered area ahead of the case neck that leads to the beginning of the leade/free bore section. As you...

    30BR FreeBore

You didn't say exactly what diameter the end of chamber length gauge is....that's important to know before going any further with advice. It should be close to the neck diameter of the chamber. If it's just a little over bullet diameter, it may be protruding past the end of the chamber...

    30BR FreeBore

'Free bore' is the distance from the end of the chamber neck to the start of the rifling. If I'm reading this correctly...you're saying you have .047" from the end of the case neck to the end of the neck area of the chamber? In other words...a .047 'gap' at the end of the case neck when it's...

    30BR 'Dust My Broom' project

Not yet, Chris. I've fired a few cases to set up the dies but that's it. As suspected...no surprises there. Winter still has us locked in pretty hard. Good shootin'. :) -Al

What music are you listening to?

Yeah...we had a running battle over our music for years. I did a lot of 'sorting out' of rifles that his customers brought in for work. If he wasn't sure of their handloading skills, I'd wring them out in his heated and a/c'd shooting building ('Stan's Shootin' Shack And Sweet Corn Stand'...

    30BR 'Dust My Broom' project

Chris, thanks so much for filling in the blanks on your gun. :) I remember well how Jim Goody and others just terrorized IBS Score Shooting with the '30 Jag'. People also forget that Jim won the IBS Score Shooter Of The Year with the 30X47'ish '30 Jag' in the semi-early days of the 30BR. ;) From...

David, the good stuff (metal work, etc) was done before I got it, courtesy of Gary Long. I just rubbed a little extra love on it. :) -Al

    30BR 'Dust My Broom' project

Being a sucker for any orphan gun that needs a new owner, I'm putting the finishing touches on this project....an Old School 30BR. It's entire history is a bit murky but it was certainly an East Coast gun at one time. After that, it somehow made it's way to the wilds of the deepest...

For the car guys among us

It was originally done by Rousch. It ended up getting modified to keep more oil around the pickup, though. It was great on the dyno (static) but the oil would stack up going down track and aerate the returning oil. You could see it on the data download as a gradual pressure loss starting right...

What music are you listening to?

One of my grandsons is a Nuc. Engineer on the carrier USS Nimitz....they play this when they launch the FA18's. He says that with the exception of the reactor room where he works, the entire ship feels the launch system when it's "....tossin' 'em off". The Nimitz left San Diego a couple of...

2023 NBRSA Short Range Score Nationals

Remember, to capitalize on any mathematical advantage requires the shooter to make the exact same shot with the .30. And that's not easy to do as even the smaller case .30s have significantly more recoil and gun torque in the bags. Good shootin' -Al

For the car guys among us

Busy off-season. This was a rolling chassis that ran a ProCharged 481X engine combination. It's being fitted with the 2019-later supercharged Cobra Jet engine for NHRA BB/A class in Competition Eliminator. My involvement has been pretty minor up to this point but I thought you might like to see...

Should have a lot more vertical

The wavy line isn't the path of the bullet...it's the movement of the bore during firing. The length of the Full Cycle is more correctly the time of the Full Cycle. Good shootin' :) -Al

Should have a lot more vertical

It's meant to illustrate the 'dwell' cycles at the top and bottom of muzzle movement during firing. -Al

Should have a lot more vertical

Regardless of what anyone's chronograph shows, this is what makes the difference when it comes to 'on target' accuracy. In fact, your gun demonstrated exactly this. Good shootin' -Al
