How to „Glue in“ an action?

Stephan, if you're doing a glue in on a previously pillar bedded rifle...check to see how much the barrel moves when the front and rear screws are loosened up. This will tell you how much stress there is in the bedding job already. I use a dial indicator devise that clamps on the barrel...

    Ungluing a Glue-in

Never had any paint damage on any that I've done. You could always tape a piece of tin foil along the sides of the stock below the action....would protect it from the heat from the iron. Most epoxies will start softening at 165-180 degrees.

    Ungluing a Glue-in

Absolutely, Butch. I use wooden shim wedges used for setting door jambs, etc. cut lengthwise. Tap them in the front between the barrel and the barrel channel when the iron is working and give them an occasional tap to keep some upward pressure on the barrel. -Al

How to „Glue in“ an action?

On the Kelbly, remove the trigger hanger and trigger before doing the glue in. Then reinstall the trigger hanger. FWIW, a well done pillar bedded gun will shoot as well as a glue-in. Just because a gun is a glue-in doesn't mean it's stress free. With a glue-in, you'll never know or be able...

    Edge stock weigh

Keep us posted on how it works out. Just finished this weight system on a new stock for my 30BR HV gun. With different weights threaded front and rear, juggling for total weight, balance and different scopes or barrels will be pretty straight forward. The front of the tube is closed with a...

    Edge stock weigh

With the copper alloy in it, normal HSS tooling can be used on it...easy to work with. Not so with straight tungsten. I'd suggest fitting it yourself if you have or have access to a lathe.

    Edge stock weigh

A .500"dia. / 7" long piece of tungsten copper will get you 14 ounces. At .500 diameter, each inch of length is 2 ounces. If you need 8 ounces, the piece I linked here would be perfect. Hope this helps. -Al

    Edge stock weigh

For the size you specified, a tungsten copper piece will be a fuzz over 5 oz. Diameter is your friend for weight. For example, a .625 piece would be right at 9 oz. Can you fit a larger diameter piece in the tube? -Al

    Edge stock weigh

Not sure what the exact size is you need for your weight tube setup. You want a tungsten/copper mix for easy machining to your desired dimensions. Saturn Industries is a good source of tungsten round bar for weight systems. They have an ebay store....here's a piece that would work for you with...

    Edge stock weigh

PMA Tool sells butt weight tubes and weights...might try them. Did you need the screw in plug for the end of the weight tube also?

Sightron SII - 36X Scope for Benchrest

I must have had half a dozen of the SII 36X's over the years on my 30BR BR rigs w/o a single problem. To my eyes, the glass is right with the Weaver T36's and the Leupold 36 BR-D scopes. The later discontinued Big Sky versions have better optics. In fact, at last seasons NBRSA Score Nationals, I...

    fitting an extractor

When you get a case that the extractor won't snap over on....what's the diameter of the extractor groove on that case as compared to the others that work? Also, is the extractor groove profile differ on the troublesome cases?
