    Tubal 3000 gone BAD!

Tim is correct. The red residue is nitric acid. Some powder companies use short nitrocellulose wash and prep intervals (common with many of the bulk powders we now buy as 'surplus'). Shortened nitrocellulose prep often leads to premature decay. As propellants deteriorate, they emit nitrogen...

    Hand Priming Tools - 2017

I'm still using an all-steel K&M from the early 90's. I've never felt the need to upgrade to the newer models. As long as I do my part, I don't think I'm missing out on much. -Lee www.singleactions.com

    N130 and N120

Haven't tried N120 yet, but LT-30 has been a very strong performer in my .30 Stingray (40 degree .30 Major with the shoulder pushed ahead another 0.035"). A couple of guys I know switched to LT-30 in their .30 BRs. Claim it shoots a hair tighter than 4198 in their guns. The nice thing about...

Easiest way to true bolt face?

To echo Jackie's point, a steady rest and single-point bit are the best way to face bolts. Here's a somewhat related picture of how we hold bolts to grind them (opening the face for larger rims): -Lee www.singleactions.com

In your opinion whats killing the group game

The need for moving backers makes it harder to put on matches. I'm on the East coast and wish there were more group matches. Others I compete with feel the same. Conversely, if I travel within a 2 state radius, there is a score event almost every weekend between March and October (IBS). -Lee...

    ppc ?

It really depends. Some lose their competitive edge within a few hundred rounds. Others go well beyond 1,000. Rare to see them stay competitive over 2,000 but it has happened. The target, and possibly your bore scope, will tell you when to pull the tube. -Lee www.singleactions.com

A velocity question for you smart guys

Like Bart, I shoot next to a Lab Radar. But I could care less about ES and SD for initial tuning. I've had LT-30 & LT-32 loads which shot dots but gave ES's of 30+ fps. Similarly, I've had tight spreads that were clearly between nodes (lots of vertical). The Lab Radar is really helpful for...

    neck turning

There's no substitute for competition. I practiced for two years before entering matches. I've learned more on the line shooting against others than practice sessions and internet theory combined. Of course, I still practice too. -Lee www.singleactions.com

    Bud Pryor match

Great to see Wayne shoot that agg. I was a referee and was proud to sign his targets. BTW, the 3rd 300-yard target was fired through a downpour. Couldn't really see where the bullets were hitting. Makes his score all the more impressive. Here are the grand agg results. -Lee...

Bullet boxes - plastic or cardboard

I use these: http://www.mtmcase-gard.com/products/reloading/cast-bullet-box.php They hold roughly 450 6mms or 350 30-calibers. The cardboard on the right holds 1,000 6's. I'll have to check to see where I bought those. -Lee www.singleactions.com

    6mm 65-68 gr FB with different ogive`s ??????????

To echo what others have said, here are some quick rules of thumb (none are absolutes....every bullet is unique to itself). Given the same jacket length and base: 1) Lower ogive = lower BC = more bearing surface. Usually easier to keep in tune however. 2) Higher ogive = higher BC = less...

    Neck Tension?

Like others, I just mic the sized neck. Then I subtract that from the loaded round's neck diameter (mic'd). Close enough. Ultimately, that number doesn't mean much if good things don't happen on paper. The gun will tell you how much tension to use for a given powder. -Lee www.singleactions.com
