    Barts Bullets

I used Bart's 6mm 68 grain Ultra and .30-cal 112 before making my own. Both shot extremely well. As with most custom bullets, they're worth the wait. Now that I'm making my own, I fully understand the turnaround times. These are all done on single-stage presses. I cut and swage my own cores...

    setup tips?

You might try this: https://fieldandcaveoutfitters.com/collections/all-items/products/alignment-tool-for-benchrest-set-up If you have access to a mill, you can make your own and save $64. It's a neat gizmo, but with some practice it's tough to beat the human eye. -Lee www.singleactions.com

    2020 Lot of LT32

I've shot LT-32 in my PPCs, but 2014 production. Can't remember the lot numbers. It's quite temperature stable. As long as the humidity was mild to low, it shot well (20 to high 90s on temp). My barrels liked 28.3 grs. Now when the humidity rose, say 65-70% or higher, it would jump tune...

    Old benchrest rifle

Shultz and Larson's date back to the 50's. Unrtels were widely used back then. A 15x or 20x Ultra Varmint would fit the gun well. Unertl Programmers were popular too, but came a little later. By the 60's, Lymans gained a ton of ground in BR. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Legality of selling a home finished action

They aren't registered in terms of a national database. But a newly manufactured receiver that is transferred must have a serial number. That's what I meant by registered. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Legality of selling a home finished action

No, it's a federal law dating back to the GCA of '68. Here's the ATF's latest ruling from 2015: https://www.atf.gov/file/11711/download Basically, if you "sell or distribute" your own receiver, you need a manufacturers license and the frame must be registered with a SN. -Lee...

Legality of selling a home finished action

My dad has been building actions for himself since the 80's. He researched the legality and to echo what has been said above: 1) You can manufacture a receiver for yourself. No serial number is required 2) If you want to transfer the receiver, you need a manufactuer's license. The action...

    220 russion cases

Everyone called the old Sako brass balloon headed, but it really wasn't. They had shallow relief areas at the sidewall edge. Quasi-balloon headed may be a more apt description: As Randy noted, the original Sako wouldn't take the pressure like Lapua or Norma hulls. -Lee www.singleactions.com

    New Railgun

Well, not quite new. Jay Young built this for me in 2018. I’ve been so busy shooting matches and making bullets, I never took the time to finish it…..until now. Hope to put it on paper real soon. Action – Panda with TG ejector Barrel – 1.45” Lederer, 13.5 twist Scope – March 48x Trigger –...

A different method of mounting Rail Gun barreled action.

Slick concept Jackie and I can't say I've seen anything like it on a rail. Please keep us posted. Speaking of rails, I finally finished mine this week. Hope to play with it soon. I'm going to start around 20 in/lbs and go up to 50 or 60. Quick question. Do you tune the load first, then...

    This Lee Martin guy....

Thanks for the kind words Al. I really enjoy this place and have met some great people here. A long time ago an old benchrest shooter told me – Always analyze your targets…..and never stop asking “how”, “why”, and “what if”. This forum, plus phone calls with members, has helped me answer a...

    Hornady 6 ARC

Dave - Lou and Ferris advertised the 1.750" PPC case in Precision Shooting back in the mid-80's. But at that time I think they were only taking pre-orders. Not sure if Sako ever made any for them. If I can find the ad, I'll scan and post it. -Lee www.singleactions.com

    Hornady 6 ARC

The Grinch is a 6.5 Grendel necked to 6mm and improved to 40 degrees (the Grendel's shoulder is 0.070" farther forward than the PPC's). This ARC is just a PPC with the 30 degree shoulder moved ahead 0.041". -Lee www.singleactions.com

    making .30 118/124gr bullets on 1" J4 - ram stroke at core seating ??

The four things I want in core seating: 1) It comes off the punch 2) It swages up to the final dimension or within a ten-thousandths of final (ex - 0.3084") 3) Small bleed line on the top edge 3) The jacket length shrinks. Ex - on a 0.925" .30 cal, they drop around 0.917". -Lee...

    Kreiger barrel questions

I shoot an 8.5 ogive 6mm and use 0.0015" neck tension. The marks are hard to see with that light a pull. Color the bullet with a sharpie and you'll see them better. You can go down on the bushing but you want to see the marks with the tension you plan to run (which sounds like 0.0012"). -Lee...

    Powder question

Far be it from me to question Walt, but didn't T-32 come from three lots of military 8208? Walt and Don Geraci found one of the three to shoot best and that become T-32. The other 2 lots were jugged as Thunderbird 8208...and they were labeled "8208". My dad has an unopened jug of T-32 from...
