    Bill's mantra on tuners

Gerry, I shoot the same XIII/Shilen Ratchet .900" straight combo. It is pillar bedded with Devcon, in a Stith 250 straight line stock. Torque setting is 45 inch pounds front and back. I have not experienced the high / low shots when waiting on conditions. Have you tried different torque...

    Need A Little Advice

The 10X XIII's are better actions than most give credit for. The later actions come with a stronger firing pin spring and the ignition is excellent. John

    New Eley Edge and Match

The additional case length could be needed to secure a tighter crimp, for better powder burn. This may be the reason why some have said that the Edge factory round is thicker by .001" near the crimp.

    New Eley Edge and Match

Has anyone else measured the length of a fired empty Eley Edge case. The one I measured from a friends rifle was .017" longer than a fired Eley Team case from my rifle. Why is the Edge case so much longer???

    new batch of eley match

Matt, Most would agree that the Eley company's Tenex product is their premiere ammo. I checked an email received from KSS as few days ago advising that a new batch of Eley ammo had arrived and would ship on 5/09. The new batch showed 4 lots of Tenex (now sold out). The lot speeds were 1070 /...

    new batch of eley match

Dean, it appears "Eley" has revised their marketing strategy. They now have done away with "Team" and replaced it with "Edge" ... which is still unavailable and unproven match quality ammo. The latest batch of "Match" all appears to have lot velocity speeds under 1050 FPS. Some lots as you...

    IR5050 Sporter class restrictions

Is it legal to attach a anti-cant level device (bubble) to the rifle scope in IR5050 Sporter class?

    Factory Sporter Bench Tecnique

I had one of Dan Greenlaw's windage adjustable tops on a Cauldwell Rock. Nice rest, but mine used a standard 3" cordura and leather bag. The one in the photo is a difference style, but I get the idea. Sold the Greenlaw rest when I purchased a JJ Industries front rest, followed by a Farley...

    Factory Sporter Bench Tecnique

Bill B, I am not familiar with the Fudd front rest setup. However, is there a front bag brand/model that you could recommend for shooting custom sporters free recoil? When I shoot a factory sporter (Anschutz 1712 in USBR), I apply mild pressure to the grip with my right hand and just minimum...

    Eley Edge Whazzat???

Here is what Eley has to say in their advertising: The makers of tenex have designed a new cutting edge cartridge. Unlike any other .22 cartridge on the market, edge is breaking engineering boundaries with its scientifically developed surface treatment. The surface treatment delivers both a...

    IR50/50 Sporter stock

I have read the rules for IR50/50 Sporter class and see that use of "stock tape" is not permitted. My question then: Is the application of an automotive "clear coat" to a sporter stock also against the rules? John

    2-24-13 Manatee IR50 match results

Pete, my limited experience with a Ross tapered Broughton 5C on a 40X is that it shot much more consistantly with a screw on weight added to the standard Harrel tuner. At first I tried going to the light tuner route, could not get it to shoot at any setting from O to 500. Adding weight, in my...

    2-24-13 Manatee IR50 match results

Doug and Pete, congrats on your 3 gun and unlimited agg. wins today. Appears to be good scores across the board for windy conditions. I received my new sporter stock from Don Stith yesterday. He did a very nice job ... and it only weighs 17.2 ounces. I will turn the pillars tomorrow on my...

    IR5050 Sporter barrel length

Dennis, no I do not have a plan for tuning after finding a good lot of ammo it likes. Sure would appreciate any insight as to how to tune one of these sporters. The dog knot is back bored 1.900" deep and is .700" diameter. John

    IR5050 Sporter barrel length

Well, for those who might be interested; I spent a good part of the last day and half in my workshop and finished up the sporter barreled action. Quite a bit more lathe time than building a conventional RFBR rifle. Counter or back boring the dog nut at the muzzle is tedious and time consuming...

    IR5050 Sporter barrel length

Tim, I will be fitting the Shilen barrel to a new XIII sporter action on my S.B. lathe. Will also do the pillar bedding and stock work myself. Don Stith is making the stock for me. This is my third build, the other two RFBR rifles shoot very well, when I do my part. John

    IR5050 Sporter barrel length

Received my Shilen Ratchet R3 sporter profile barrel from KSS, a short time ago. For those that might be interested ... the blank is 25 1/8" in length and weighs 3 pounds 9.2 ounces. The chamber end is 1.072" diameter for about 2 1/2", then tapers down quickly to .700" for approx. 9 1/2"...

    IR5050 Sporter barrel length

Can anyone who competes in IR5050 sporter class, provide the length of the sporter profile barrel on their rifle from crown to the receiver? Gordon Eck has a reputation for building excellent sporters, so the barrel length of one of his sporters would be a good rule of thumb to work with...
