Found a nice carbide shank boring bar...

I picked up this Grizzly boring bar. Min bore is .236. Will work great for boring muzzle brakes, pre boring chambers, boring a seater stem hole, etc. Figure this might be use for others that are looking for a small minimum bore boring bar that that has enough length to make it very useful...

BAT Machine roller cocking piece on Rem 700?

Dave, I can see what you mean. Do you start the shallow angle midway? Would you happen to have a before and after pic? I have an XP that I finished up and the would like to make the dog leg bolt lift a little easier and smoother.

My take on inboard and outboard spiders

My take on your front spider is, I think the nose wall needs to be thicker to keep from distorting when you tighten to the set screws. The only reason I say that is, I ran into a similar problem with a spider I made to run in my steady rest. Have you dialed in a barrel with it and used it yet?

    powder trickle on digital scale

They were $400 two months ago. $525 now, but with the exchange, should be around $515. This scale is the real deal if you are serious about precision charges.

This Pratt Burnerd Adjustable 3 Jaw worth it?

Yeah...there are 4 adjusting screws. I know I would need a unique backplate for it and machining it is not a problem. MSC has one for like $260 with two discount coupons. Anyhow, I passed on it regardless of the price. The thing would have been close to 50 pounds with the backplate....I...

This Pratt Burnerd Adjustable 3 Jaw worth it?

Thanks Jerry and Mike! I asked a couple questions regarding run out and if he tested it to see if the scroll works smoothly. He replied with "Yes it runs great no runout also its adjustable with the 3 screws not a lot of them around plua made in the usa" I really don't think he knows...

This Pratt Burnerd Adjustable 3 Jaw worth it?

I been wanting a 6" adjustable type 3 jaw chuck for more repeatability than my standard scroll chuck. I came across this Pratt Burnerd adjustable 3 jaw chuck. Its a 8-1/4" with no back plate. I believe a D1-4 back plate runs around $260-270 ish which is no big deal if the chuck is worth it...

Another will this New Heremes work for barrels?

Thanks for the offer Bob...I just saw it now. I actually have a fixer upper on the way. No motor with it. Looks like there is a scribe or stylus mounted. Missing a font clamp and no fonts. Once I get it, I will know more what I'm dealing with. Hopefully its as simple as getting fonts and a...

Bore run out in a new barrel

I'm still confused as to indexing a barrel in a lathe. I have yet to chamber, but will shortly once I gather a reamer and pilots. Anyhow, this is how I understand it and please correct me if I'm not looking at it the right way. I will be using two spiders, one on each end of the head stock...

Another will this New Heremes work for barrels?

Another will this New Heremes work for barrels?

I kinda thought so. I know from looking on eBay, the brass fonts come in heights of 3/8", 5/16, 1/2, 3/4...etc. I'm guessing the height is specific to the mounting bracket size? Thanks again for the info...I hope to obtain the unit!

Another will this New Heremes work for barrels?

Another will this New Heremes work for barrels?

I was looking to use some sort of scribe with it. Carbide? Diamond? So if I mount to a dedicated table and devise a way to support the muzzle, it should work, huh?

Another will this New Heremes work for barrels?

Will this one work OK for occasional barrel engraving? If it takes me an hour or 2 to engrave a barrel, I don't care. It comes with a vise that can be modified to hold a barrel. Just wondering if I can make this work...
