"Reading Wind" at 1000 yards in Benchrest competition. I want your opinion?

Hi all , This is a pic of the last target shot by me at a recent 1000yd Benchrest match, I held in 4 different spots in the white during the string.. We have had a particularly bad run of weather conditions this year and at no time in the last ten targets have i been able to completely Run all...

6 mm BRX - what freebore and neck should I use?

Hi Jerry, I based my cartridge i call the 300 Redneck on the 300 Win Mag because of the RWS and Lapua brass availability.. It is shortened to 2.600 and the neck lengthened to .340 (+.070).. I think Charles and the other 308NM users have it right in capacity for the H4831 style of powders.. Mine...

6 mm BRX - what freebore and neck should I use?

Hi Guys , I notice my name used in this thread in conjunction with the BIB bullets.. So i thought i'd add my version .. I started using the slow twist/187BIB set up in 2003 because of the success of Dave T/ CharlesB/ Charles E and Joel P In your country.. I am sure that the decision was the...

    Pointing dies

Thanks Rich, If you had seen the flags during the sighter and the record periods ,like me you would not have expected that target back .. We have had horribile 1K benchrest conditions this year ,if we can get a break that 2.7ins of vertical might be converted into something good .. I'm convinced...

    Pointing dies

Hi All, I have completed tests to my satisfaction at 1000yds that prove that 10 bullets that are fully qualified (Juenke/ B to O/ Bearing S / Meplated /etc) compared to the ones pulled from the box are approx 25% less in vertical dispersion ,on average.. I loose about 1/2 to 3/4 moa in...

    Rear Locking actions?

HI German , I also Agree with yourself and Tony Z , it is an apples to oranges comparison . But i would go one further and say that it is not suitable to LRBR either .. If you want to be at the pointy end of long range BR then everything has to be right ,you have to be able to shoot fast (10...

    Top Cleaner Again. Sorry!

Hi all , We can no longer buy GMTC in Australia in either form ,but i now have a substitute that comes from the US.. It's made by/for Johnson/Evinrude Outboards ,comes in a US gallon, part # 777189.. IMO it's as good as the old GM stuff and is not to badly priced either ..JR..Jeff Rogers

    1k Matchs in the Tropics

Hi All , Rain don't want to go away ,still here.. I hope it will be gone by the time for our next international comparison with those Virginia guys on May 2.. This year has seen a fair bit of rain at times with 51inchs falling so far , not even close to the year 2000 which saw 2.400 meters(95...

    1k Matchs in the Tropics

Hi all , We just recently held our biggest 1000 yd shoot of the year in Northern Australia.. I reckon this pic is a beauty.. Near the end of the sighter period a tropical rain squall came through ' ready on the left" was heard and this was the look on Trevor A's face as he turned around ..Best...

    Trying to understand the Juenke!

Hi Charles, As usual ,thanks for your input.. I will test shortly and have decided simply to try the best against the worst at 1000yds after a full mechanical qualification and just let the target do the talking..JR..Jeff Rogers

    Trying to understand the Juenke!

Hi all , I have for some years been shooting the 187 BIB 30 cal bullet, i have heard it said the you don't need to buy a Juenke comparator if you run the above bullet ,but i have only just recently got access to one to compare things .. At what stage ,considering i only shoot 600/1000yd bench...

    Something to think about

Hi Jeff , It clearly states in the IBS rule book that a minimum of 5 benchs are required to be a registered IBS range ,we have only 2 and with a bit of sucking up this year we hope to have 4 .. My guess is we will never have the 5 required.. It also states that a minimum of an RO , a...

    Something to think about

BMF, Simply a great idea but not without problems ,600/1000yd in Australia has rules that have evolved from our local needs, flexibility is required so it's really International.. The Northern OZ shooters would welcolme being apart of a truely international group if a sanction was flexible...

Meplat trimming by OAL or ogive

Hi Monte, I make all my own stuff so i don't use any commercial ones but what i need to know is that each projectile has the same exterior shape.. To this end i want to qualify each from the meplat to the area on the ogive at it's barrel land dia ( in my case it's .300 for a 30 cal )and then...

    Best caliber for 1000 yards

Whistlersgoo, This started as a post about best cal for 1000yds on the 600/1000yd Benchrest section on Benchrest central ..I have no requirement to kill the paper targets that i shoot at at the 1000yd Benchrest matchs that i attend ,so much of the specific facts and figures that you bring to the...

    Best caliber for 1000 yards

Guys, Am i reading this right, that the 408 is legal in IBS/ NBRSA/ Williamsport now .. I was under the impression that .400 was the biggest.. We have in Australia tried to stay as close to the rules used in the US as possibile .. Have not seen anything in the big stuff shoot worth a hoot anyhow...
