Using Bushing dies, as Bullet seaters

It works. When I first tried this? I thought it needed more experimenting. So far it's worked with 204R, 223, in my own testing. I'll be loading some 17 FB, and that is my next test. I don't see why it won't work with others. Jim

Using Bushing dies, as Bullet seaters

Spent some more time at the reloading bench, playing with my bushing dies, as seaters. Both Bushing dies from RCBS and Redding work, with decapping rods removed. I just used the Redding 223 Neck bushing die, to seat 223 bullets in 223. Worked fine. A Full length bushing die, should work, as...

Using Bushing dies, as Bullet seaters

For seating bullets for my 204 R, I first do a partial seat, with a regular 204R Seating die. This aligns the bullet, in the case. Since the 17 FB bushing neck die, is a shorter die, I first remove the decapping rod, on my RCBS bushing die, and I simply install a bushing. In my test, I used...

Using Bushing dies, as Bullet seaters

I've been using neck bushing dies to do a final bullet seat . Yesterday, I used my 17 Fireball, Neck bushing die, with the appropriate bushing, to do a final seat on my 204 R ammo. What I like about this method, is, the base to ogive of my reloads, is very accurate. I can use this same set...

    Nosler ZIPEDO Bullets ?

Thanks Frank ! So how did you load them ? Did you bell the case mouths ? I can see it might reduce deformation of the rings. And how deep did you seat them ? I'll probably start with loading a few for a 223. I found a few more boxes, that weren't marked Zipedo, but appear to have the...

    Nosler ZIPEDO Bullets ?

I must have omitted Zipedo, when I first typed my post. I corrected it Thanks. I did find a little more info. It seems they were "Turned" with a solid base. One poster stated the need, to bell the case mouth, to avoid distorting the ribs, while loading. There were a few positive remarks...

    Nosler ZIPEDO Bullets ?

Persistent ! 😊 I did, a Google search, and found very little. The Zipedos were discontinued in the early 70s, according to some. That probably spells the reason, why there is little on the net. Maybe if someone could refer me to some old magazine articles, that might be helpful ? Thanks...

    Nosler ZIPEDO Bullets ?

I was hoping to get some first hand experience on these bullets. Maybe there isn't anyone around anymore that used them ? Thanks !

    Nosler ZIPEDO Bullets ?

Recently I purchased 5 boxes, of these apparently Old Nosler Zipedo .22 cal 55 gr. bullets at a local Estate Auction. Can anyone give me any info on them ? I'm guessing they weren't very popular. They vary in diameter, and the rings are the widest.

    Neck turning difficulty

10ring I had the same problem. I simply ran the expander mandrel back and forth a few times to correct. I also lube the mandrel with sizing lube on a tooth brush. Nothing fancy. Jim

Using a bushing die as a seating die ?

It would be nice to have a lathe ! I don't. Jim

Using a bushing die as a seating die ?

Jamming the bullets into the lands is what I want to avoid. That is the purpose of using a seating system, that is more consistent with seating depth. I use a bullet Comparator to measure seating depth. Factory seat stems, show more variation, in seating depth, than I like. A bushing...

Using a bushing die as a seating die ?

John certainly doing nothing has it's merits. The bullets I seated with the bushing die, showed no damage to the bullet, and no runout by my viewing. This method has satisfied my long search for a tool that contacts the bullet near the widest point. With this, I can seat a variety of bullets...

Using a bushing die as a seating die ?

WOW !! I just returned from the cave. Full length sized 5 LC 13 .223 unprimed, once fired brass. Pulled out a 204 Neck die. removed the guts. This worked great. No marks were left on the bullets, during the seating process. I turned the seated bullet, so I could see where the bullet...

Using a bushing die as a seating die ?

Yes run out would be a concern. The thing about using the Bushing die ? The expense is nill, compared to buying custom made stems. The bushings would have a large contact area, so i doubt there shouldn't be any distortion. Uniformity of seating depth should be the same, even with different...
