you local guys up there need to be able to determine one bullet hole from another i viewed a newcomer target today you guys just gave the shaft hard and deep that is the very reason we shooters don;t come to your matches my two cents.

I felt compelled to post a reply to this criticism. The club did not have the benefit of plugs or templates at the match - we are just shooters wishing to have a good time and enjoy the company with others of like mind. After an examination of the target in question by several shooters, we ask the fellow with the most benchrest experience to take a look and in his considered opinion, the bullet hole was smaller than the other four - the best we could do at the time. I remember the target and in my recollection, the bullet hole, had it counted, would have scored 9. This would have moved the shooter in question from 4th to 3rd in his class. I would encourage any and all shooters to come and give us a try, notwithstanding this criticism that I feel is unfair. Afterall there are not that many places in Wild Wonderful West Virginia where you can shoot at 500 yards with the facilities we have. We are a relatively new club still making improvements to the range and certainly do our best to provide honest and fair target scoring.

Hi Nick and thanks for the inquiry. We are located along Rt. 14 between Mineral Wells (just south of Parkersburg) and Elizabeth. From Mineral Wells travel approx. 9 miles toward Elizabeth on Rt. 14 and turn left on Camp Barb Road, then 1/2 mile to intersection and turn right. The range is then on your right about another 1/2 mile. Watch for the Porta John. Our next match is 8/24 with practice days on 8/17 and 8/23 (afternoons). If you need anything else, just let me know. Hope you can make it.

I will not make the next match, but since drive right past there to go to Middlebourne to visit my wifes family the next time we head that way I will get in touch and try to combine a visit and shoot match.

Sorry to hear that Nick, but if your plans change you are more than welcome to come by.

Been a lurker on this forum for about 8 months now. After seeing this post I thought I would register and shed some light on what is going on. I'am the newcomer that shot the target in question.
I'am new to rifle shooting and this was my first shoot. I've been reading the post about the L.K.R.C grounghog shoots and thought it would be fun to shoot and a learning experience. I was right on both. I've enclosed several attachments of the target.
The target in question was the 500y. target. The shot in question was the not a 9, but on the line of the 10 ring. As you can see in the upper rt. corner the target was 40, but was later knocked down to 30. The score would of have tied for 2nd. and as I understand, the tie-breaker is determined by your 500y. score, wich would of had been a solid 2nd.
The hole in question is the hole in the 10 ring. I was told the 10 ring shot is a 20 cal. hole. On the relay i was shooting the smallest cal. on the line was a 6mm, wich is what I was shooting. I asked more than a dozen times how the 10 ring hole could be a 20 cal. hole when there was nothing smaller than a 6mm on the relay. All I got was shoulder shrugs for a answer. I stayed around the shoot until most had left waiting for a answer and I'am still waiting. So if anyone can tell me how a 20 cal. is on the target, when there is no 20 cals. shot in the relay, please let me know.
In all I met some really good people. Found a really nice place at L.K.R.C. As WV shooter stated, there are few places in wich you can shoot long distance in our beautiful state safely. I harbour no ill feelings towards anyone. In my heart I know what I shot. I encourage anyone who likes to shoot to try one of the shoots at L.K.R.C. I hope to get back up myself.

Gary, thanks for your kind words and understanding attitude - you indeed are a credit to our shooters. Please forgive my recall accuracy as the 60 year old brain cells do not quite work as well as they used to. Regardless of the controversy, you did very well on your first shoot, better than most I should add. I am looking forward to August match and hope you can make it.

Thanks WV Shooter

Thanks WV Shooter for the kind words. As stated before I harbour no hard feelings. I found a good bunch of guys and a great place to shoot. We all make mistakes. If I do'nt make a mistake or two a day some one better check my pulse, because I'am no longer a stroking and a joking.;). The lord willing and the creek do'nt get up several other shooters and I will be up on Aug. 24. What time can you practice on the 17th? See ya soon.........Gary
