Why a 3 groove barrel

What is the advantage of a 3 groove bbl ? Ease of cleaning?

4 and 3 groove may just be a tad easier to clean..... May last a tad longer at the throat..... Or stated another way, the larger lands keep their form >>Leade angle<< longer with the same # of rounds compared to a 6 groove barrel.

I got a PacNor 3 groove .20-.222 SSS with 1300 rds documented with frequent bore scope "looks"... Looks good and I believe will go beyond 2k with excellent accuracy, least for 1/2moa accuracy and crow "getting".

Now for Benchrest >>100/200 style.... No benefit or advantage IMOP.

I thought theory about the lands lasting longer sounded real good. I don't shoot real hot loads and don't let my barrel heat up much when shooting in colony rodent areas. However, the throat on my .17 Remington super match grade stainless steel Pac-Nor barrel was toast after a documented 1,100 rounds. I had it set back a full 2 inches and it still ripped the jackets on J4 bullets!!! Maybe I just had a lemon

Little bores...

Maybe I just had a lemon

Naw, just a small bore and a high intensity cartridge.... 2,3,4,5,6 grooves whatever....Faster erosion is gonna happen and it is more sever quicker than with a .20 , .22 , 6mm... This I have seen with a 17 K-Hornet even with a 6 groove Shilen... At 1300 rounds, it got pretty ugly..!

Just the way it is...
