Who is the gunsmith?

At some matches, technical information is requested to be listed, one of them is Gunsmith.

If one person built the gun that's being shot, the question is rather straight forward and I've never questioned it. However, my gun was originally built by one gunsmith, but now I've had a new barrel chambered that is of a different caliber and had the bolt face opened up to 30BR from the 6PPC by a different Gunsmith, and I will be putting that barrel on my rifle.

What is the appropriate, "Gunsmith" answer for the form.

The Gunsmith is who you say,he/she is. I usually list whoever did the most recent work.

This is what I do also

I figure if one has a rifle that is shooting consistently it becomes about the barrel after that so Whomever chambers the next barrel gets to be named.

It sure takes a lot longer to build a gun right than it does to chamber a barrel... a well known GS. just sent me a pic of seven barrels he did in 3 hrs. on his new cnc machine.... Jim

I do agree that a rifle is more than just the barrel and it's chambering. However, it is a big part. There is the inletting, bedding and glueing of the action that is important too.
Installing the trigger would be like putting on the scope rings. While important, that is much the same as maintenance. I suppose replacing the firing pin spring would come under that category too. All important, but hardly gunsmith required. IMO

That's why I wondered how others decided "WHO" the gunsmith listed should be.

The IBS questions

On their entry form asks for the Stocker, I believe. If that be the case, that might leave the Gunsmith to fitting the barrel and perhaps timing a trigger if needed. Guns are not that complex a machine. So, if one is to name the stocker and there are folks who bed stocks for rifles without doing anything else to them, what else is there for the Gunsmith? A couple of "Smiths" I've used over the years do not do stock work.
