who can i get a benchrest stock from for a remington XR100 rifle

and like I said before- inlet really don't matter on a glue-in. a good stocker will make it work

When did we move to glue-in??? I'm REALLY missing info here. Does dude know about trigger hangers and stuff?? He REALLY wants to GLUE an unsleeved Rem into a BR stock??

I think I'll just back carefully away from this one...

no need for a trigger hanger- you ever seen holes in the side of a stock? no need for a sleeve- it just makes it nicer. glue in with one or 2 screws or none- I seen it every way back in the day. so what's the difference in gluing in a remington or say a grizzly, or farley, or round stiller? I just assumed he wanted to glue it in since he was making a BR rig out of it. even with a screw in the same stocking work must be done, just with release agent added. but if he really wanted to spend some money, take some chances and make it reeeal nice he could put a hanger in it- that's always cool:cool:

Yeahhh, I've got one with the holes... :)

But now we're definitely beyond the purview of "stocking it yourself" at least until the guy has seen the stuff in action. And I'll stick with my original contention, building this thing as a 10.5lb PPC is spending a lot of time/money on the possibility of getting a competitive 100-200yd rig. YES any good BR 'smith could do all of this, for a price.

All my thoughts revolved around a removable (and somewhat attractive!) package.

he never said he wanted to stock it himself. and he was told a long way back it will cost more than buying a custom action. he could sell the XR, use that money towards a custom action and be money ahead- probably enough to have a barrel or 2 fitted. if you got one with the holes howcome you haven't responded to my ad in the classifieds wanted section? I have a new shooter needing a gun. all these old BR guns are sitting in closets around the country and nobody wants to pay it forward for a new shooter. he shot pretty good down at denton in december with my spare bat:eek:

Dusty,
Don't be discouraged, as far as factory actions go, the XR100 is a great little action. I have plenty of 700's but would not take two of those in trade for a XR100 if I were set on building a locally competitive short range BR (as you stated). The XP100, 600 and XR100 are all a bit different when it comes to stock inlet ting, though most of the stock manufacturers will cut a XR100 inlet. With very little extra work your gunsmith can bed the XR into a variety of old bench rest stocks. Not a big deal.

You will need to (at least) sleeve the firing pin, all the XR's (and later 700's) that I've seen look like they punched the hole with a triangular tool! Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
