Which powder for .223 & heavy bullets??

Depends on whose 5.56 brass it is. Current (last 15 years or so) Lake City 5.56 brass is generally as good as anything else except Lapua. On the other hand some foreign 5.56 doesn't seem to be up to snuff with poor control of rim and extractor groove dimensions. LC brass that I've weighed is about the same weight as WW, i.e., light, and is hard except for the well annealed necks.

I've seen some early LC brass that was terrible though. Case necks visibly uneven (it didn't need measuring to tell that one side of the neck was half as thick as the other side), and flash holes WAY off center.

Paul:
For what it's worth, I'm using Ramshot TAC, 20" Douglas stainless steel barrel, 1/2" 5-shot groups @ 100 yds. Don't have my notes, so can't tell how much propellant.

Thanks gang,

I really don't care what pills shoot as long as they do. The les baer is a very accurate rig and is used primarily for pig hunting under the full moons, so bug hole accuracy isn't what I have to have....it's just a disease we all share. The critters certainly can't tell the difference between a 1" and 1/4".

I got the black gun bug & I'm looking at getting another at some point down the road but will certainly be of a lighter design as the les baer is just crazy heavy with it's 24" no taper bbl, but suits it's application:D:D
