Where to mount scope rails on barrel blocked gun?

I thought I had read somewhere previously that barrel blocked guns should have the scope rail cantilevered off the barrel block, not off the action. Is that right? What reasons are there that barrel blocked guns should have the scope rail mounted off the block, not the action?
This will be for a 300 WSM braked light gun, not a small 6 PPC with little rifle movement.

Max I have my scopes all mounted on the action, had one on the block but didn't like it. I've see all kinds of setup's but have not really heard any pros or cons. But I like it solid to the action than getting vibrations from something hanging of a diving platform so to speak!

Scope mount for barrel block

Max, I like Joe have seen the mounts done both ways over the years. I have several barrel blocked guns and all of my scopes are mounted on the action. One is a light gun(in 308 Baer), and the others are all heavy guns.

I would think the cantilever off of the block would make weight a major consideration. My most recent heavy gun ( picked it up yesterday) has scope mount on a Bat 3L multi flat, but is a solid (1 piece) mount that is 2" high and comes back 4" past the action. The purpose(gonna try it and see) is so I can shoot it with out moving my head as far out of the way.

There might be someone out there that can answer your question as to the reason why one is better than the other, but I cannot. I have seen mounts on the barrel block in years gone by, but I do not remember one of the cantilevered design on a light gun.

Regards, Waverly
