Where the action is.

I contacted a test as described by the OP a few years ago now, using a fire forming load in a couple of 338 Lapua magnum cases, one old & brittle & one brand new unfired

It was my standard fire forming load using ADI AS30N (Clays) with a bit of toilet paper as a wad on top.

I wedged it onto the bolt face inside the receiver put it on my Muzzle Brake test rig, placed a protective MDF cover around it then a cardboard box over it.

The set a video camera up, retreated around the corner in the factory & pushed the remote trigger.

The toilet paper wad punched through the cardboard box, the case ruptured up by the shoulder, the old bit of brass was particularly nasty, the new one not so much, it just split the neck & peeled it back to the shoulder, the video showed a muffled flash with the box & everything jumping a little with the explosion.

Clays has an extremely fast burn rate so would have more pressure than a standard loaded round, it made a fair old bang, you certainly wouldn't want to do it at home
