Hey all , haven't posted in a while , but I still been out there shooting. today I made one of the best shots, I think ever in my life. at a 100 I was shooting lights out so I decided to try something new. I took a cartridge that I smashed the case a little bit during reloading and it won't chamber. I stuck the bullet end into the target at a 100 yards away. Then shot the primer and blew it up. I coudln't belive it ( yes only one shot) I got the picture of the hole in the target on my cell phone and found a a few pieces of the brass near the target. Best thing was that I found the top end that says rem. 308 win and it was in tack , just split in half. so it was a dead center shot into the primer. Can't wait to keep getting this thing better.

Range: stonewall Jackson in WV
gear:
.308 win rem 700 vls , Jewell Trigger set at 10 oz , piercesion firing pin , scorehigh bedding, bushnell elite 4200 6-24 , the rock Br
175g SMK 42.5 grains of IMR 4064 fed 210 primer

Nice shot!

I was wondering how new that vls is? Which trigger it came with? Did you replace the pin because of a particular reason? How was the original fit of action/stock? Did you happen to test between each stage to gage the benefit of each?
I was considering addressing these same areas with my VLSS. It's fantastic as is but I think I have a touch of OCD. Any info is appreciated! Sounds like you've got a truly great rifle there.

The gun is about 5 years old , it came with the trigger that was 8lbs from the factory. With the instructions from a user here I got it down to 2.5 lbs but it had a lot of creep and wiggle in it. So I bought the jewell HVR trigger. I replaced the pin because, mine came with that J-lock type pin and spring that was all bound up. Original fit of action and stock was very solid, and was free floated about 4 inches from end of stock. now its floated all the way back to about an inch of the recoil lug and then bedded from there back.

Gun started out shooting 1.5-2 inch groups at 100 yards when I got it . After tuning trigger, and getting reloads of nosler partition it was 1.25
Then came the 168 SMK bullets and firing pin assembly got it to .75 ....bedding got it to .5 and the last stage jewell trigger and I tried something new and got the 175 smk and it is shooting much better. I have test targets that document the changes and then the new groups , the numbers above were just estimates ..without getting the papers.

Gun's got around 400-425 rounds through it. and I've not experimented enough with powder , as Ive used 4064 the whole time and 42 - 42.5 grains of powder.

Please could you tell me about the replacement firing pin,j lock replacement.
I have a vs .308 and it shoots great, but have been wondering about up grading the pin.
Thanks.

Not sure if you have seen pictures of the jlock spring , but they are all bound up and rubbing the inside of the bolt. Now if this does anything to accuracy , I don't know ...but I know for sure I don't want anything bound up like that on my gun. At the time I bought it piercecision (SP?) was about the best you could buy for that jlock replacement. Not sure if any new things are out on the market. There is also some other benefits that I don't have off the top of my head, but one of them I think is quicker locktime and less spring tension.
