Every Year, about this time, Benchrest shooters are invited to visit the beautiful City of Seymour,Tx. a small town located in North central Texas.
Family members, friends and Pets are welcome.
The Texas State Unlimited (10 shot) and Heavy Varmint BR match was held on June 8-9,2019. This has always been a well attended match. Insect repellant is provided, free of charge ,to control any unwanted guests. John Horn and Scott Hunter, assisted by Trae and Kammi Reed work tirelessly at finalizing all the details that go into scheduling and hosting this Benchrest match. Their efforts and contributions do not go unnoticed. The match at Seymour is on solid footing, as long as these volunteers are active participants.
Not much has changed in Seymour, since I was there two years ago. The Dollar General Store is still the busiest spot in town.
A total of 28 shooters showed up at Seymour, for the Texas State unlimited and Heavy Varmit this year. The list includes some of the best Benchrest shooters that ever picked up a Rifle. Charles(Huck) Huckeba, Gene Bukys, Mike Conry, Gary Bristow,Larry Baggett ,to name a few. Several brand new shooters, representing the future of this fun sport, made for a lively gathering of competitors.
Dr Tim Oltersdorf graciously accepted the responsibility of calling the match. Dr Tim took a leave of absence from surgery rehab, to orchestrate what turned out to be a glitz free match. Michael Buffer,”lets get ready to rumble” could take lessons from Dr Tim. Special thanks to Dr Tim.
Breakfast and lunch, free of charge, was prepared and served, on location by Dr Larry Lysord.. There is something about the smell of cooking at a Benchrest match that makes a lost shot quickly forgotten. I think Dr Lysord missed his calling.
The 100yd unlimited ten shot group match, 6/8/2019
In your face, west Texas winds, quick changes, left to right made it challenging to get off 10 shots in the allotted time. I believe, flat land winds are more difficult to figure out. When the dust settled, Larry Baggett was crowned the winner, .2838 Mike Conry was a close second,.2886, Ron Sewell was third .3006. It was good to see Larry back, offering his expert opinions.
