Every Year, about this time, Benchrest shooters are invited to visit the beautiful City of Seymour,Tx. a small town located in North central Texas.

Family members, friends and Pets are welcome.

The Texas State Unlimited (10 shot) and Heavy Varmint BR match was held on June 8-9,2019. This has always been a well attended match. Insect repellant is provided, free of charge ,to control any unwanted guests. John Horn and Scott Hunter, assisted by Trae and Kammi Reed work tirelessly at finalizing all the details that go into scheduling and hosting this Benchrest match. Their efforts and contributions do not go unnoticed. The match at Seymour is on solid footing, as long as these volunteers are active participants.

Not much has changed in Seymour, since I was there two years ago. The Dollar General Store is still the busiest spot in town.:)

A total of 28 shooters showed up at Seymour, for the Texas State unlimited and Heavy Varmit this year. The list includes some of the best Benchrest shooters that ever picked up a Rifle. Charles(Huck) Huckeba, Gene Bukys, Mike Conry, Gary Bristow,Larry Baggett ,to name a few. Several brand new shooters, representing the future of this fun sport, made for a lively gathering of competitors.

Dr Tim Oltersdorf graciously accepted the responsibility of calling the match. Dr Tim took a leave of absence from surgery rehab, to orchestrate what turned out to be a glitz free match. Michael Buffer,”lets get ready to rumble” could take lessons from Dr Tim. Special thanks to Dr Tim.

Breakfast and lunch, free of charge, was prepared and served, on location by Dr Larry Lysord.. There is something about the smell of cooking at a Benchrest match that makes a lost shot quickly forgotten. I think Dr Lysord missed his calling.

The 100yd unlimited ten shot group match, 6/8/2019
In your face, west Texas winds, quick changes, left to right made it challenging to get off 10 shots in the allotted time. I believe, flat land winds are more difficult to figure out. When the dust settled, Larry Baggett was crowned the winner, .2838 Mike Conry was a close second,.2886, Ron Sewell was third .3006. It was good to see Larry back, offering his expert opinions.

The 200yd unlimited ten shot group match.
Again,in your face winds with increased velocity. Larry Baggett emerged the winner. .3037, Mike Conry a close second .3109 followed by Gary Bristow .3230

Thanks for the report Glenn....

Had a wonderful time until I listened to Bagget's BS and didn't drop powder in match 4 of the 100 yard Unlimited. Awful hard to overcome a 10" penalty. Had a great time, caught up with our old buddies, and ate well.

The photos shown below are of one of the most unique rail guns ever built. The late Cliff Styles from Seymour was the original builder of this rail gun. It had a pretty bad anodize job originally and John Horn had it re-anodized many years after Cliff lost his battle to cancer. It was on the loading bench at Seymour, but I don’t know whether anyone shot it in the match or not.

The video below was taken during the HV 100 on Sunday. The shooter is my long time traveling buddy, Joe Archer, who has just returned to shooting benchrest in the past two years after a long layoff due to health problems.

Mike, that Rail Gun illustrates what I been saying. Its a work of Art. I shot it in competition at Seymour several years ago, when my two bench guns got stolen. John let me borrow that Rail and Scott Hunter let me borrow a bag gun. That was the first time I had ever shot a rail gun. As I recall,I shot pretty good, for the first time at the controls. Nothing like good ole Texas hospitality.:)
