Types of benchrests

Hello,

I am looking to get into benchrest shooting and own a couple of Anschutz Rifles.

As I was googling arround the web I came accross an article of a person who owns a BR-50 and noticed he was using a bench rest that had no padding on it but seemed to be very happy with his purchase.

Of course we aren't shooting high power so I asume padding would affect accuracy?

Does anyone here happen to know any other comparable benchrests? The person who makes the rests seems to make a limited ammount of them and I can only imagine what they would cost.
He isn't taking orders at this time. :(

Thanks for the help in advance. :)

Thanks for the info

Pappas has one and so does hall.
You can see both at www.killoughshootingsports.com
I have a pappas rest and it is very nice. I can not say anything about the one made by hall since I have never see one in person.

Thanks for the lead. WOW! I didn't know they would be so expensive! I can only imagine how much the one in the article cost.

Hopefully there are other shooters here who use other models so I can compare.

Thanks again.

You can contact James Pappas, @ 817 735 9883, and let him know what type front top you will need, and then he can give you the best price available for you needs. Dollar for Dollar, the Pappas Rest is the best buy. If you are shooting anything other than Unlimited, the one piece rest may not be allowed is some disciplines. If you can, you might visit a match in your area, and see what is actually being used and maybe even allow to try one out to see the benefits of the one-piece rest. Also, it's a good idea to let us know where you are located , so someone in your area might be able to better assist you.

You can try www.randolphmachine.com they make a nice one.
You should decide what discipline you are going to shoot, if you go to any that shoot three gun other than ARA you will need a front rest and rear bag. If you stick with Unlimited in RBA and IR 50/50 along with ARA the one piece is the way to go.
You should check to see how close you are to what clubs and see what they shoot!
Good Luck!

The rest made by Randolf Machine in N Carolina is by far the best rest made it, may cost a dollar or 2 more but is the best made I have ever seen. It was desighned by a rimfire shooter Ken Fulgram. Randolf stands behind their rest!!!!

It depends on what you want, IR 50/50, ARA or RBA. Go too there websites and check the rules for each. You can get a front rest and rear bag for less than the best. You need to go to a couple matchss and see what people are using. That will give you a clearer picure of what shooters are using and you may get to shoot from a two peice and a one peice rest to see what you prefer.

Joystick Tops?

I have a Pappas rest and like it, generally, except for having to use knobs. I have used a Farley Joystick since they first came out and find it difficult to use the knobs now. Has anyone out there been successful in adapting a Joystick top the the Pappas rest?

Thanks,

Pete, It would be no trouble to replace the Pappas top with a shadetree joy stick, don't know how they compare in height but they both look to have one screw in middle to mount to a center post .

Thanks Gerald,

I have considered one of them and may go ahead with it. I was wondering if anyone had tried one and if so, how it worked out.

You will lose, what I consider to be, one of the big advantages of a one-piece rest; that is, the unchanging relationship between the front and rear contact points between the gun and the rest, as the gun is moved between targets. Or, were you considering moving the entire upper plate with the joy stick?
