Tenon Shoulder----Rem

I plan to set back a Rem sporter barrel in 204 Ruger to 20 Vartarg.

There's not a lot of metal to work with in Rem's sporter contour.

Question is----What is practical for the minimum amount of shoulder to bear on the recoil lug ?

Will appreciate any answers.

Thanks.

Remington's are already at about 1.180 on the chamber end, and it tapers pretty quick. You will have to take it back about 1/2 inch.

Just my opinion, but you are wasting your time. Most Factory Barrels, Remington's in particular, are notorious for chambers the don't run any where near true with anything else.

To answer your question, as long as the tenon shoulder is 3/32 larger than the tenon thread, it probably won't hurt a thing.

If you run out of shoulder you can always thread the outside of the barrel and make a nut like Savage uses.
