Stiller's Viper Action

Maybe Jerry will see this and reply. What alloy was used in making the bolt and were the A,B, and C lots all the same material? I love my Vipers and are the smoothest running actions that I own. Was just curious if it was the combination of a hard chrome bolt and anodized action that made them so smooth or something to do with the material itself.

I may be wrong, but Jerry started out with 4340 at a strength and hardness level that met the requirements of the application. You will notice the bolt handle is welded on, a nice feature.

The Viper is a top notch action. I had one on my Rail Gun for several years, I took it off only to go to a Drop Port Diamondback.

viper action hunter rifle some a number of years and have to agree that it was pretty slick operating. I attributed that to the hard chrome plated bolt but could be other things I guess? Too bad he stopped making them, especially the drop port variation.

The actions are hard anodized as well. Hard chrome and hard anodizing is like greased lightning

Jerry has sold his action making business to another person and it has moved from Wylie to Garland, TX. From their new web site at stilleractions.com, it looks like the only competition action they are making is the P1000 action which uses a Remington style bolt. They are still making the Predator, Tac and some other tactical line of actions, but no longer list any of the benchrest actions such as the Viper or Diamondback.
