Not often I'm able to write "Steve Lee wins" but I did manage to pull off a win in Dublin.
Let me start by saying July in Dublin GA is HOT!!! I think we'll pass on future July shoots in Dublin.
Both mornings started with temps in high 70s and humidity over 90%. By 10 am temps were pushing 90 and by the end of shooting 95+ was the rule. Humidity did drop a bit during the day so at least it was a moist heat.
Every once in a while the flag tails would twitch, but the shooters didn't feel much of it. Everyone looked like a wet washrag by the end of the day.
Saturday morning in Unlimited 200 small group specialist Danny Morgan started out with .372. This was a 10 shot group with a bag gun! I managed to shoot consistently for 4 groups then finished with an ugly .805, but managed to pull out a win with an agg of .2616. Don Hardeman was second with .3062 and Manny Garcia finished third with .3103.
Saturday afternoon in Heavy Varmint the mirage was vicious. Joe Bougard started out strong and was leading after three groups, but Roger Avery drilled a small group .255 in match 4 to take the lead and won with an agg of .2449. Joe finished second with .2647 and Don Hardeman was third with .2839.
Sunday morning in Light Varmint Joe Bougard started strong and held the lead through match 3. In match 4 I managed to shoot a .371 and pull ahead winning with an agg of .1954. Joe was second with .2378 and Gary Sullivan, on the strength of his .194 small group finished third with .2440.
Sunday afternoon in Sporter Manny Garcia started well with .491. In match 2 I managed .375 to take the lead and combined with 2 fours and a
(yuck) seven managed to hang on and win the agg. Don Hardeman was second with .2548 and Joe Bougard finished third with .2575. In match 5 the small group specialist was back and Danny Morgan shot a pretty .295 to take small group.
In the 4 gun I was first with .2634, Don Hardeman second with .2897 and Danny Morgan third with .3224.
I'd like to congratulate Joe Bougard on some fine shooting. He didn't shoot Unlimited so he wasn't included in the 4 gun, but if you look at the three bag gun aggs he beat everyone handily with a .2533 agg.
As usual many thanks to the excellent MGGOA crew, especially Matt Walker and Stump. This is the first time in many years that MGGOA, home of the Shamrock, has held a second shoot, and despite the low turnout Matt indicated he is willing to do it again, so we'll try to schedule something in the fall next year.
