Hello All!

I have a Redding Full Size Die. How do you set up the die to just remove the primer and not size the case at all.

I have some fired cases, and I don't see a need to full-size them.

Just unscrew the die a few turns. You may have to extend the decapper rod the same amount though. But why not just run the "some fired cases" through as usual??

Won't the fired cases get resized as well.

Won't that shorten the life of the cases?

no....it will neck size and drop the primer.....my guess is any production die backed up 2 full turns is no longer sizing the case body.
sizing brass does not shorten brass life....OVER SIZING brass will shorten its life.
DO NOT SET UP YOUR PRODUCTION DIES AS LISTED BY THE MANUFACTURE.....this is typically raise the ram and turn the die down to touch the shell holder. for most guns this is overworking the brass and will shorten its life. size as little as possible to safely chamber in your gun. often this neck sizing only.

A wilson neck sizer with the neck bushing removed will also do the job of popping the primer as well and will not size the case. Not sure of the cost difference between the wilson and the lee, but it is something to check into.

Unless you are just making key chain ornaments, you will find it neccessary to at least size part of the neck.
This of course is to keep the bullets from falling out. Lots of good info in a basic loading manual

why dont you tell us what caliber/cartridge we are talking about....what is the gun used for ???
