single point threading is 'Mickey Mouse'??

I think I can see a dead center ground into the end of that mandrel. With that setup and the madrel tight into the pilot on the tap itself it probably does a damned good job.

I missed that part too at first glance. Then I re-read it to find this:

"A specially turned mandrel that matches the actions bore exactly is turned with a CENTER ON THE NOSE THAT FITS INTO THE CENTER DRILLED HOLE IN THE NOSE OF THE TAP that the manufacturers use to cut and grind the tap."

The tap is held true in the collet chuck. The bar is centered between the center on the nose of the tap & the center in the tail stock. So the whole setup is centered & the bar can't flex. The critical part is then how well the bar fits the action. I'm not sure this is really much different in result from the PTG/Manson style tooling.

Single point threading isn't mickey mouse, but I'm not ready to condemn this guy's method. JMHO

Ron
