Shipping to Canada

It seems we have lost sight of the real problem here. You are saying it's our fault. We are saying, no, it's your fault. The real fault lies with the idiotic rules and regulations of both countries. There was a time, not long ago, when crossing the border between the USA and Canada was no big deal and there was free and open trade between us. What the hell has happened?

What's even more depressing is that it will probably get even worse, and may never get any better.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of my shooting and collecting friends on both sides of that imaginary line.

Dennis has correctly outlined the stuation. In order for an American individual or company to ship brass or components, scopes and so on to Canada, the procedure is: the Canadian importer(individual or company) must obtain an International Importation Certificate(IIC) detailing intended transaction. When obtained, the importer provides this to the USA exporter who must then send the IIC and application to to the State Department who may then issue an Export Permit.

We do this as an authorized Nightforce importer. We are also the Lapua importer for Canada, but import from Finland, which is simpler. We ship brass and bullets by Canada Post daily to Canadians and ammo through couriers-truckers.

Hope all have a great New Year!

Tim, yes many Canadians do compete in the USA on a regular basis. It just takes planning and time as letters from match organizers are required to get the one time US permit. It is also suggested by BATF to get a US state hunting licence (some can be bought on the web for about $10) and this would allow a reason for entry again with the permit but some have run into trouble with US customs when going to a shoot in the east when the hunting licence is for ND or off season. When customs doesn't understand and says no at the border you have no recourse and get to turn around and immediately go home. Very frustrating.
