we discussed this a while back, and i did send out a bbl
and had it treated.
the bbl had 49 rounds thru it which some thought might be high,
but i had it done anyway.
i just put 25 full power rounds thru it and no copper.
300 win mag, mk248 mod 1 base line ammo.
220 gr smk at 2900-3047 fps..no wimpy loads.
no loss of accuracy, a small increase in velocity.
i gave my bbl a coarse finish to get a flat black
final color when done. matches the stiller action
very well.
i'm happy i would do it again.

I had one done

a few years ago, a 30-284 short, HBR rifle. I shot it a season and sold it. The coating was still there when I sold it and it performed well .

18 MORE ROUNDS, no copper yet.
220 gr bare copper at 2950 to 3040 fps

Sorry to hijack but I am wanting to treat an entire Rem 700 action, barrel, bolt, everything...has anybody done this and what were the results? Who best to send it to?

do a search on this forum on salt bath nitrating and melonite.
should bring up a couple of places.

nitriding a Rem. 700 Bolt

Sorry to hijack but I am wanting to treat an entire Rem 700 action, barrel, bolt, everything...has anybody done this and what were the results? Who best to send it to?

I'd only send a bolt to be treated if the handle was welded on. I don't know the melting point of the stuff Remington uses, but I do not be interested in getting 'pieces' back instead of a bolt with a handle on it. If its a factory attached handle, the extraction is probably out of time, anyway, and that should be corrected before treatment. If you're shipping an action it must be shipped to a FFL holder, so call and ask. I already asked CCT and they're not licensed so I guess the next stop is H&M Metal Processing.
