S22R Action Question

I'm new to benchrest and picked up this used .22lr custom benchrest rifle with out knowing much about it since it seemed like a good deal. It's marked Time Precision New Milford, CT, and S22R is the model of the action, I can't find much info on this action or the manufacturer and had some questions about it.

There is no feeding ramp leading to the chamber, and no extractor, no cutout in the barrel for a extractor, and there are threads showing between the barrel and the action, using a snap cap you have to chamber it by hand and extract the case from the bolt by hand, am I missing something or is this how it should be, I also don't know what make of trigger is in it if anyone can identify it by the attached pictures.

You have the steel version of the Time rimfire action they also made one out of aluminum. The bolt does have extractors it does not have a ejector you have to use your finger for that.
The steel version has a larger port so it is easier to load. It also has dual firing pins at 6 and 12 o'clock. They came with shims so you could adjust the headspace. It should extract a fired case if it setup correct. it has a Jewell trigger.

They had a cone breech so you could adjust the headspace if you wanted to. They are a good action but they can be a pain to load if you wanted to shoot fast in changing conditions.
When tuned and with good ammo and barrel they will shoot very good. They also made centerfire actions also I do not know if they are still around.

Thanks for the info, I miss spoke it does pull the casing out of the chamber so the extractor works, it just has no ejector, I can live with having to knock the case off the bolt. I can't find any manufacture markings on the barrel except 22lr R. Smith OP, KS 66210 the barrel does have a crosshatch type pattern on the outside of it, I assume the initials and address are from a previous owner, does anyone recognize the brand of barrel?

The markings I bet are the gunsmith that may have re-barreled it. I know when they used a lot of Shilen barrels but it could be anything now.
They have a website but I do not think it has been updated for years. Does it have a Time barrel tuner on it? It looks like it is great shape hope it shoots good for you.

It has a Hoehn 4000+ tuner on it and McMillan stock, I found their website and sent a E-mail but I think your right it looked like they had not updated the site in a while. I think I'm going to have alot of fun with it, I have been shooting a Kimber 82g and this popped up and I couldn't pass it up.

Your rifle was smithed by Ray Smith in Overland Park, Kansas (Kansas City area). No idea what barrel he used. He built a lot of varmint rifles back in the 80's - 90's. Could be Douglas, Shilen, Lilja or ? Ray passed about 10 - 15 years ago. I do not recall that specific rifle shooting in any matches in the KC area. I do recall Mike Greims shooting one around 2000 when he first started shooting ARA competition. However, I believe that rifle came from St Louis and Ron Hoehn.

I did hear back from Time Precision, was told it was originally built with a shillen barrel approximately 20 years ago so around 1998 give or take a few years, thanks for the info on the smith, I picked this up in Lawrence, KS, and yes I do know not to dry fire it I have snap caps. I was hoping the swirl finish on the barrel would stand out as a particular brand, I havent found any pictures of similar finishes on barrels.

No bbl blanks come that way, 100% gunsmith applied. A couple CF guys would do it as they felt it assisted in bbl mirage.

I believe the individual that ended up with Mike Greims' old Time lived in Topeka, so that could be his old rifle.
