The Holton Gun & Bow Club was host to the 100/200 yard score shoot on Saturday, June 18, 2016. Eleven shooters showed up to endure the Holton mirage and heat. The temperature in the shade at 4:00 pm was 88.
I know that I speak for all those in attendance when I say many, many thank you's to Bill Nienow, John Inman, Jeff Aberegg, the range crew, and last but not least Jim Dyke for setting up and taking down the target racks, stacking them in the range barn, and just plain making this match a huge success!
Now onto the meat of the matter! Matt Dardas of Essexville, MI (the editor) swept the 100 yard and 200 yard stages, and the aggregate. I shot my Borden Rimrock 30 BR with Berger 115 grain flat base bullets and 34.2 grains of H4198. I have to say the Jim Borden created one heck of a great shooting rifle for me!
Close on the editor's heels was none other than the former IBS Score Champion, Larry Fuesse shooting his trusty ole 30BR with an ancient barrel that he resurrected from his scrap pile and recrowned. Oh, and Larry also won the High Master Class kabut banging out a great 498-20X.
Rob Fairbanks (the ship's captain from Rogers City, MI) and his side kick Kurt Schultz (the ship's cook from Rogers City) drove four hours and some odd minutes to enjoy the great time. Rob gave a heck of a go at 200 yards by compiling a 10X count!
The Expert Class was won outright by the famous 'six shooter' Vic Halverson shooting a fine 497-17X.
And last but not least, winning the Sandbagger Class is Mike Darmes firing his 223 with factory ammo.
All of us had a great time sharing stories, bogus load data, and sitting under Aberegg's awning sweating a few ounces before going to the line again.
Just the messenger boy...
