Replace traditional 2-3 bolt lug design with interupted threaded bolt lug design?

Jim,
Where did you come across something like that and and have you ever carried it to Africa with you.
It would be a great classic plaines gun.

Remember, the Weatherby Mk V has one locking lug and eight safety lugs so you would need to make sure your system compinsated for bolt wobble.

Don,
The 1917 Enfield has angled bolt engagement surfaces. Can you imagine what would be involved in truing up the mating surfaces of the action and the lugs? I don't think that there is an advantage to the system for what we do. All that interrupted threads would do is to reduce the unit loading that produces galling, and this has not been a particular problem with good material selection, hardness differential, and a little grease.

Truing should not be a problem as the setup/machining of the action body and bolt body would be the exact same method as used for traditional lugs and/or barrel/action tennon threads.

advantages;

-eliminates extraction timing issues.

-improves extraction leverage, extraction motion occurs thru 100 percent of bolt lift as opposed to present 10 percent or less bolt rotation.

-increases extraction loading surface area, as you have mentioned.

-symetrical extraction force of opposed angled threaded lug surfaces vs. offset force of traditional bolt handle extraction angle.

-ease of manufacturing when made as a full diameter, where lug is same diameter as bolt body, see the following Barret example, which is pretty much of what I had in mind;

That's what I saw at the Shot Show. In Barret's case I think necessity was the Mother of Invention. The 98 Bravo is 338 Lapua and if my mind wasn't playing tricks on me, it doesn't have a large diameter barrel tenon. Thus extraction problems. If it does then my apologies to Barrett. I've run into that issue with other calibers and actions. Using the complete bolt rotation for extraction, while maybe masking the problem, does address the issue of getting the case out of the chamber so I guess there is no problem.
But there are other issues to considered also.

Call me I have an idea.
