Praire Dog Hunting on the cheap?

Don't rely too much on those SD GFP maps of dogtowns. The information is not very current and lots of ranchers poison dog towns. Same on BLM and Forest Service land, maybe even on the reservations. One good poisoning effort and a town is history.

I and a group of friends, have gone out PD hunting for years to Chamberlin SD. Most of the places we went to have all poisoned !!! Except for those that want to charge $$

Every year it becomes a challenge to find a place. I won't go into details, but I have a bad taste in my mouth for Reservations !!!

Good Luck

Pierre north to Mobridge.....

Go farther north and west, Pierre to Mobridge. I went Walleye fishing up near Mobridge (guided) several years ago which led to some terrific dog grounds. The Fishing guide knew a rancher that was loaded with dogs. We go back as often as possible, other area ranchers have also had us out. Great people.

Mobridge was our last hunt in 2007. A ranch that had lots of dogs the year before, had poisoned.
We opted to hunt reservation, that was a mistake ! We went accross the River and North.
We spent a lot of our 4 day hunt finding dogs, but got lucky. A rancher was planning on poisoning, but allowed us to hunt, on non reservation ground.

Locate before you go, is my best advice !
