Dad and I have been building a PPC receiver and are 75% done. I thought some of you may like seeing progress pictures:

We began with pre-hardened 4140 round stock. Lathed and precision ground to 1.45" o.d.:

Milling the port:

The cocking piece's starting point:

The undrilled cocking piece:

The cocking shroud, milled from 1" round 4140:

Cocking piece test fit:

The firing pin:

Set-up with a very light test spring:

Cutting the cocking cam:

The cocking cam:

Grinding the bolt body:

Creating the locking lugs:

Milling the extractor slot:

Bolt with the extractor installed:

Bolt in the action. Obviously we've yet to contour the back of the receiver:

I'll have to check but I believe this is the 20th he's made since the mid-1980's. All have been flat bolts but we may make a cone for this one (two bolts, two sets of barrels).

Lee have you and your dad put any thought in building a drop port action?. your action Looks very nice, keep the pictures coming

We've never done a drop port but I've seen the Stiller Viper and really like the design. Maybe one of these years we'll try to incorporate that into ours.

Not to jump ahead, but here's what the Martin BR looks like in finished form:

It's very much patterned after the Hall.

Rob, we make the lug ramps in a vertical Bridgeport. In brief, the head is canted 10 degrees and a small end mill cuts the cam. The photo posted above is somewhat deceiving....the transition is much milder than it appears from that shot.
