Powder Scales @ Shortrange Benchrest Matches

What percentage of shooters are using scales (digital of other ) during the match? I'm not a good shooter but have won stacks of "pine boards". I have never used scales @ matches. If I had a good barrel, I shot good aggs. If my barrel .2" to 1/4 incher, I was ashamed and waited until after dark to pull my targets from the wailing wall.
Please chime in if you know the answer to above ???. Thanks and good shooting.

My observations -----

About 1/2 of us are using the RCBS dispenser and many of those that throw from the culvers have a scale (usually digital) of some sorts to adj. the clicks. That being said, many of us are being "whipped" by those few who only go by clicks. Did Jonnie Reb get your tags to you?

I would not agree with 1/2, if there is 10% using the Chargemaster I would be surprised and feel that number is high.

I find that there is no clear cut evidence that the Chargemaster users are shooting better than they would have with thrown charges, but do concede that they add a degree of certainty as to charge weight that is comforting. On an unrelated matter, I find your font color (lime green?) to be harder to read than black.

I disagree
I find his choice of font color to be awful.

And on a related matter I like reloading with my Chargemaster, but at short-range I too doubt it makes much difference.

I used to use a Chargemaster at every match I went to---even before they were the "in" thing to have. Sure got some weird looks at first. Last few years, I've gone back to the volumetric powder thrower (Harrells). Can't tell any difference in on target accuracy. If anything, I've won more wood with the Harrells. Bottom line, if you've got a decent barrel and you're paying attention to the wind flags, it mattereth not which method you used to put powder into the case. Now, someone who doesn't even shoot BR will chime in and say I'm all wrong................................wait for it..........................it's coming..............................

Hey Tommy 2gun, now, there are probably half using a Chargemaster either plugged in or on a battery pack. It just eliminates one variable.

U comin' 2 Dublin??

(I can't see your friggin' green print so I changed it)

Goodgrouper told it right. Its the gun with a goooood barrel and the conditions that really matter. My main reason is that I spent a whole winter and could not get consistant throws. (+.03 to - .03) so I went to the chargemaster a few years back. Now I notice there are several more that are using them (just my observation)

For all you throwers....the new T will throw really well, because of the grain size and shape. I have some of the Canadian 2015, and it is the same size.

Thanks Jerry,,, and yes I got up w/Johnny "Reb". I sure hope Johnny will do well after the passing of his wife. I know he's lost without her.

I am one of those shooters who is REALLY ANAL about my reloading bench etiquette and cleanliness of my equipment....................

When it comes to loading with a Harrel I am pretty good at just .1gr variation in throws. BUT, when it comes to rounds that are going to be fired at the record target, 6 are loaded and verified (with my digital scale) to be NO MORE than .1gr out. Whether or not it makes a difference it does NOT matter. It is piece of mind. I believe that there is a pyschological advantage just like there is in any sport.

Sorry Boyd, I thought I had clicked on a darker green,,, eyes are getting bad.... Thanks for your reply

Evidently Uncle Jerry,, I can't see either,,,, 'cause I sho thought I had picked a different color, but it be fun gett'n slammed about the color.
I would give my eye teeth to get to Dublin, but the tooth fairy robbed me late one night. I didn't hear the fairy, I just woke up gumming my 2 day old beef jerky.

Just left click to highlight.
I don't even know computerese and I found that.
I also doubt 10% use a Chargemaster, Pact, or other. Some hide in their basement and do it at home and come preloaded for the short range, one day matches. And then 0.03% change fom week to week.(actual percentage)

Aunt Francis , I knew you would have the correct percentage. Thanks and jest fer yoo

When are we gonna be able to get some uv that powdaaaaa? Oh, and let Aunt Francis see the color.

Tommy----you make me laugh so hard that my drink comes out my nose.
Boyd---- please clear up my befundled mind----what is new T? what is the lot designation(etc.) on the Canadian 2015
funny thing----got a reply from Bill Gammon, he can't get 2015

Cordially,
Keith in NC

I have seen the arguments both ways.
Some say look at the records.
Some say look at the successful shooters.
All I can say is I like it and it takes one variable out for my peace of mind.
Throwers were all that they used to have so what would we expect.
For all we know the magic records happened when the thrower worked and kept everything dead on.
And maybe they are also responsible for those shots that cause us to say where did that come from.
To early in the game to tell yet......

Naahh, you still get those with the Chargemaster. Seems that wonderfully unsocial bullet comes from Murphyland no matter what type of powder charging you use.:(

General Dynamics has a Canadian powder plant that uses the same process as was used to make the original powder that came to be known as T32, which was as particular lot of 8208 that was sold by the Thunderbird Powder Co. Recently, they (General Dynamics) have agreed to produce (for Western Powders, that owns Accurate Powder) what seems to be (according to Lou Murdica, who was the instigator of this whole thing) an accurate reproduction of T32, but the very first lot was slower than the old T, so it was decided to sell it as 2015, which is labeled as made in Canada. I managed to find a bottle at a local sporting goods store. I should also mention that the stuff that has made spec. was held up by the approval process for a new label and container. The last word that I read was that it will be ready in a month, and that was a couple of weeks ago, so I figure at least 2-3 months. Just kidding.
