Point Newbie in Right Direction to the Matches

I see a lot of match results on this forum. A lot of matches that are near me that I would have liked to have shot in had I known about it ahead of time. My question is what is the BEST source of information on upcoming matches? How does a new guy find out about these events?

I see scattered schedules here and there but nothing (so far) with a comprehensive schedule. Any help is appreciated. I live about 60 miles NW of Houston in Magnolia, TX. I have already shot in one match and hooked up with some solid folks (thanks Gary, Jackie, Richard, etc.!)

I bought a 6PPC in LV class a few months ago and I think by the end of the week I will have enough components and equipment put together to actually bust a cap in it. I'm taking it to SW Texas (along with some other rifles and shotguns) to air it out.

Thank you,
Steve Cox

Somebody help this Guy

Hey I'm in exactly the same boat -Just getting a new to me serious 6PPC benchrest rifle ready and finding out about matches in advance so far seems harder to do than it ought to be. Any advice would be appreciated. I live in Tucson and shoot the local score match but I would like to travel and shoot more. Thanks John Benz

Join NBRSA, a great organization. You get a cool magazine once a month and it lists upcoming matches. Go to Super Shoot next year in May and be amazed!

You've got registered NBRSA group matches just a short drive (relatively speaking) north of you in Anthem, AZ at the Ben Avery Range. Contact Art Clegg @ 623-878-4979. He is a very nice guy and will be glad to help you get started.

Forgot to mention we have two shoots per year up here in your neighboring state to the north as well. It's a bit of a drive (600 miles from Ben Avery) but worth it. Sure would be nice to see somebody come up from AZ once in awhile 'cause lord knows we come down there all the time! hint hint, wink wink!;)

There is always a local match at the Austin Rifle Club in Austin, TX on the LAST Sunday of the month, 12 months out of the year. The match starts at 1:00 PM sharp and is usually over by 3:30. Although a private club, you need not be a member to compete, and the gate is usually opened to the public around 11:00. We shoot in Factory, Hunter, and Varmint for Score classes. Entry fee is very nominal, something like $5, unless you want to put $15 into a pot for cash awards after each relay, and then the overall match, in each class. We only shoot at 100 yards. Virg Howarth is our match Director. :)
