In addition to showcasing the talent of the usual suspects (Sam Hall won group for Light and Heavy this past Saturday's match), Piedmont is a crucible for the development of talent, some of it new, some of it very new! John Geschwilm has been steadily developing his craft from the early days of the 600 yd program and earned a First in LG Score with a 194. Eric Wilson (rookie) won HG Score with a 198 (tentative record) and our Range Safety Officer Andrew Cain's young son Hunter (rookie and Jr., I think Hunter is eleven) was all over us finishing Third in LG, Third in HG Group and Fourth in HG Score. Way to go Hunter! Sam, it might be time to begin scaling back the guidance to Hunter. He's starting to crowd you buddy.

Congratulations to our winners and thanks Andrew and Tommy and the rest of the team that give up their Saturdays and provide us this great program.

Amen to Greg's post. The club does an excellent job of running the matches. If you want to challenge your 600 yard skills, this is the place to come. I believe the cream of the crop shows up here for the matches. When you see shooters travel 7 hours to attend, you know its special. Any win here is well deserved. I believe just about all the 600 yard records are held by shooters who attend the Piedmont matches regularly.

Should have replied to Jerry's typo with a quote, Rich, and preserved it for posterity.
Maybe its not a typo.
I feel your pain Jerry.

The auction went well. A lot of the tractors were bought by guys in MO and IN. I bought a few hand tools, axes, adzs, etc for a friend who builds things with pioneer style tools. Roger,
come down to Unaks this weekend and shoot with us, LV/HV 100/200. We wll put you on a front tit (typo??).

Greg, thank you for the kind comments about my son and the gun club. I had a good time this past Saturday with everybody. We had a good match with some real good conditions for the morning event. I hope to see everybody back next month. Hunter and I will be there.:) BTW, was the typo a fruedian slip?????

Andrew

Andrew,
Thank you, along with Tommy, Eddie, and the rest of the crew at Piedmont for your time and dedication! You are the reason Piedmont is growing in participation. The matches are run like clockwork and everyone has a great time!
Our competition is getting tougher and tougher every year. What use to win first place 3 to 4 years ago will not even earn you a place at all these days. We have some great talent coming up. Rookies Eric Wilson (congratulations on your awsome record!) and Ben Yarboro have been shooting the lights out along with some others both young and old. As I said before it is tough to place in the top 5 anymore. 40 to near 50 of some of the best 600 yard shooters in the country are on the line every match. That is why I am especially proud to see a 12 year old (Hunter Cain),Rookie/Junior, place in the top 5 three times this past match. That earned him 8 IBS points. That is quite an accomplishment considering no Junior shooter has earned any points at all in IBS 600 yard competition to date to my knowledge! Hunter even shot three of the smallest groups of the match! A 1.1, 1.3, and a 1.5. Great shooting Hunter!!

Sam,
Thank you as well for your compliments. Next month there will be a new look for Piedmont. We had a work day today at the club and we were there from 6:30 a.m. to 4 this afternoon. We have the new gate up, the old scrubby pines down and the new fence up along the road. Parking should be better for everbody. We also trimmed some low hanging pine limbs behind the sheds so everybody does not have to duck under them. The crew (including Hunter) is looking forward to next month's match.
Regards,
Andrew Cain
