I have a Ruger Mark 3 in the shop that needs to be re-barreled. I have tried every which way to remove the barrel, with no luck, it just won't budge, is there a trick to it ?

Tite barrel

When I run into them like that.... it requires a special set up......
barrel clamped in barrel clamp.brass bushings..with resin and 150 ft/lb. torque on 5/8-20 SHCS
Action in another clamp over front of action (over threads ) and recoil lug.....that allows a 5# lead hammer to impact.....same torque on 5/8 SHCS with resin and brass bushings.....
Solid hit/hits with hammer....sometimes it requires a propane torch.....
Couple times a year I`ve got to go to this extreme...... usually a thru the bolt raceway lug wrench will work...but when they are this tite ( Loctite ?)...you want no side pressure action.....
Good Luck...

I have to do this on most factory Remington barrels and I don't know it would work on a Ruger but I chuck the barrel in the lathe and use a parting tool and make a cut in front of the recoil lug the depth of the lug to relieve the load on the receiver face. I can usually screw them off by hand afterwards. Makes the factory barrel unusable I usually would never use on again anyway.

First it is a Ruger no.3 not a Mark 3 as I stated. I do the same thing to remove the barrels from Rem. 700 actions, small cut in front of the recoil lug will do the trick. This Ruger no.3 don't have a recoil lug, the barrel shoulders against the action, also it is a 22 Hornet to be converted to a K-Hornet, same barrel, so no damage to the existing barrel is acceptable.

This would not be possible with a Ruger #1 or #3 due to the receiver design.

You'll need a stout rear entry action wrench; the stainless steel one will get twisted. PBike257@gmail.com makes a good hard one. You might want to take the action out of the stock and soak the barrel/action with Kroil or a good penetrating oil and then apply the muscle. You can also add heat to the action with mother, wife, girlfriend's iron for a while.

Did you even read the last two quotes or do you not know what a Ruger #3 is?

Did you really read what the OP had to say about what type of action it was? A Ruger #3! What kind of rear action wrench do you have that will fit that one?

I finally took it off, it took a big flat jaws wrench, and several good hits with a 10 lbs. hammer. Already re-chambered, and put back together. It was a buggar.
Thanks

I put 6 layers of blue painters tape around the action, and still had a couple of minor scratches on the action were the edges of the wrench cut thru the tape, some touch up bluing took care of it, but it is a good idea about the Delrin, I have some but did not think about it. I will remember if I ever have to do another one.
Uthink Uknow
This is a lever action single shot Ruger no.3 the action is solid, no place for a rear wrench to go in, the only way, is to clamp on the sides of the flat sided action. You must be thinking of a Ruger bolt action rifle.
