Need a Krieger LV barrel fluted

I have a Hall action and one of the heavier new Leupold 40X scopes (heavier than the old 36X). It won't make weight with a Krieger LV barrel unless the barrel is shortened to 20.5 inches, obviously less than desirable.

This gun formerly belonged to Don Creach who had his Hart barrels fluted by Hart. Can anyone tell me if Krieger will flute barrels. I wrote them several days ago but haven't received a reply.

As an alternative can anyone suggest a benchrest gunsmith who can flute the Krieger LV barrel.

Thanks!

Jerry

Can you not use the lower part of the barrel blank? Cut the first 3 or 4 inches off the top and then see what you can come up with? Just a thought. Fluting isnt cheap. I would sure hate to have to Flute every 6ppc barrel i have. Ouch!! Good luck, i hope you get all squared away. Lee

Your right Skeet

You can save 5oz and still have a 21.5" barrel by using the "skinny" end of the blank. Mr. Schmidt does it all the time make weight with his tuners.....

It may be not exactly what you had in mind but a 20 inch HV can still shoot fantastic. Your oscillation frequency with a 20 inch HV barrel is super small and that can be better than an extra 100 fps.;)

I travel from NZ to Australia to shoot sometimes and in Australia max weight for a Sporter rifle is 9lb, I have a BAT SV in a Scoville stock that makes 9lb with a 18 3/4" barrel, I used the skinny end of a LV blank, I found it shoots pretty well and a few Aussies would like it if I left it at home.
So don't be too critical about overall length, afterall I'd rather have a short barrel that shoots great than a longer barrel that doesn't shoot as well..........Ian

Thanks for all the replies. I have finally heard from Krieger and they will flute it. Since it is their barrel I trust they'll do a good job.
