Neck Turning Tool what kind?

Hi All,
looking for a good neck turning tool for a 6MM PPC? I have a box of new brass that needs to have the necks expanded and have never did this before. Please let me know what I need and how it typically works to get the brass ready. Thanks in Advance -Nick
 
I use the Hart Tool and like it. I hear there's a guy named Don Neilson that makes a fair neck turning tool ;) he calls it the Pumpkin. It's all the rage in BR circles.
 
Probably more important than the actual turning tool is the relationship between the size of the expander mandrel and the mandrel in the turning tool.

The Sinclair set up has an expander that is 1 thou bigger than the turning mandrel. Between 8/10 and 1 thou seems to be about the right difference in size for best results. That applies to necking up 220 Russian and turning.

I use a Sinclair expander body and expander. I then use a Forster HOT100 hand held turner for the first cut and a Sinclair (bigger tool, don't recall model) for the second cut.

I found that the Forster tool has a mrndrel the same as the Sinclair so suits the expander spot on. The Forster tool has a narrow cutting edge and will cut quite deep easily but doesn't leave a nice finsish to the cut. The Sinclair tool cuts over a wider cut area and won't cut deep easily but gives a nice finish. The two complement each other nicely.

Lee case lube in the squeezy tube is a good lube if the case fit is right, not to tight. Turn the case in a Sinclair holder in a battery screwdriver, about 180RPM.

Having two tools set up for each cut is a god send when compared to adjusting and resetting the tool.

Something like the Pumpkin that adjusts easily is probably nice but I couldn't get a reply from anyone to buy one from down here. I am more than happy with my set up.
 
A friend gave me

A Marquat which I like very much. it is not easy to finely adjust it but it cuts the best of the three tools I have. I use it for the first cut, which is stout. I also have a Stiller and a Pumpkin. The Pumpkin is nice all around. The graduations used to adjust t are super and easy to use.
 
I am using the K&M tools. I had Sinclair but found them to hard to adjust and the K&M was much easier. A friend bought the Pumpkin and I set it up for him and it is a good tool. I have 2 for each case that I do, one for a large cut and one for a finish cut, and the K&M are aobut 1/2 the price of the Pumpkin.

Re-read Bryces post regarding the fit between the expander and the turner mandrel. This is absolutely imperative and his info is spot on. If I bought the K&M turner I would also buy the K&M expander. They are dimensionally made to work with each other.

I have K&M and Sinclair. I like the K&M and their customer service is excellent. The Sinclair, like you said, is harder to adjust initially but once it is set, it cuts very well. I thought I'd try one for a change.
 
If you will ever need to adjust it???, then I can't imagine anything better than the PUMPKIN!!!!!!!!

I have the K&M and the Sinclair also. I now have them set up for a couple hunting guns and the Neilson is used for the rest.
