Santa has been good to me...she said I can build another toy.

I'm ordering some redding dies and Norma brass soon. I have a Broughton 12" twist 5C barrel. Have a Mcmillan stock.

Will buy a 700 action and tune it up.

Any suggestions on necks, freebore etc.?

Sounds like a Moose sticker to me for sure. I have done a 25/300 WSM and a 25/300 WSSM and the only difference I noticed was more load on the reamer pusher handle over a small chamber like the PPC. On both of these I did prebore the chamber body.

Obvious also, on a hunting barrel I would not use a sharp edge crown. A regular benchrest profile crown with a bigger (about 0.030") bevel on the face/bore intersection.

I've never found the amount of bevel has any effect on accuracy as long as it is concentric with the bore. On bore alignment I always indicate on the grooves.

Good morning Jerry,

Ha! I have not been moose hunting in 4 years (where I was the shooter at least). Permits are hard to come by.....I have shot 3 in my life. 2 with a 35 Whelen and 1 with a 7mm STW. I always go to help when a friend pulls a permit though...

I really want a 300 WSM..thought it would be a fun project.

300 wsm

If the Remington was not a 300 WSM in its prior life you will have to use after market magazine boxes and maybe bottom metal to get it to feed reliably.

The new heat treated Chrome Molly Wyatt Outdoors boxes feed real well. But take some adjusting. I had to tig up the back and open up the front to make them reliable. The other option is the double stack extended mag box with windows.

I used two 1' long pieces of IV tubing between the action and the magazine lips to give the magazine box just a little more rigidity. It worked beautifully.

Load one round in the pipe, open the bottom metal and drop in two more and close the mag box. They feed great.

300 "wissemz" are mules.

Good luck with your project.

Have deleted my last post, as I picked up the wrong print.
I did a 300 WSM about 2 years ago. It was doing fine about
1 1/4 inch at 400. VS contour barrel in and HS precision stock by big Green.
The reamer dimensions were finalized after measuring a fired case and
sized in the die to be used. The case was fired in a factory chamber, and was
generous. The reamer matches the die. Reamer was made by JGS and is a custom. It is no turn and has a .186 throat for 168 gr SMK's Print #
is 300 WSM RK

Good info Nat.

I assumed I would need to buy a wsm action, to get the magnum boltface in a short action,

I was looking at the HS precision DM, and was wondering if they would feed through the .308 one?

Quit wasteing time building one. Go buy a new Savage Model 12 Varmit and spend the rest of the time at the range

Ha!

I enjoy the time in the shop just as much the range. I have my own range, attached to my shop, and can shoot anytime.

I have a model 12 heavy barrel lying in my shop that I took off a rifle that was shooting 1-2" groups at 100 yards, and we couldn't keep on paper at 600. I use is for a cheater bar to tighten my barrel vise.

It is now fitted with a Krieger barrel without the nut and shoots....well better than me. So, thanks for the tip, but no thanks.
