Regional Hall of Fame.
We started the Eastern region Hall of Fame in 2004. We used the Eastern Regional Championship match (a three-gun event usually held over Labor Day weekend) and gave points for yardage and grand aggregate wins in the three classes. To gain admittance one needs ten points in a manner similar to the US Benchrest Hall of Fame. We went back as far as we could (1982) to find the Regional Championship results and then applied the points as best as we could. We may have missed some, but the initial inductees were certainly major names over a lengthy period in this region as far as we could determine. Those initial inductees included Tony Boyer, Ed Shilen, Perry Morton, Stan Buchtel, Fred Hausecuster, Herb Start and Orlin Gilkerson. There is also a provision for honorary inductees, of which some pretty big names in our region were added, including Ralph Stolle, Walt and Nelson Berger, Phil Sauer and George Kelbly.
There is a total of twelve points available each Regionals annually; one point for a yardage win and two for a grand win in three classes. It is certainly possible to get all of the necessary points in one year (as it also is in the US HOF), but it is unlikely. The most one person got in one year in the ER is seven by a guy in 2007 at fairchance. If someone were to win ten points in one Regionals, I would believe that would be something that should be recognized regardless of how long he or she was in competition.
In 2008 we had Lowell Hottenstein gain his induction. Lowell started shooting in the 1970's. I would believe that shows a long and enduring involvement in the Region and dedication to the game.
