I just received a call from Francis Broussard telling me of the passing of Marcy Lyons. Since Marcy has not shot in about 10 or more years, I am sure that many don't know him. Marcy's favorite type of competition was Hunter Benchrest. He was a HOF member there and he was always a threat to win with his .308 HBR rifle ...shooting it "free recoil". Rest in peace friend. Marcy was an Icon in the old Hub City Rifle Club Range in Lafayette La, my first Crawfish Match was there in 1995, and he was a friend from minute one. He always had a word of encouragement.
Rest in Peace, Marcy. You will be well remembered.

A Sad day...

I visited Marcy twice when Frank Wilson and I attended the Louisiana State Hunter matches. We'd go to dinner at one of Marcy's favorite restaurants and he'd provide us with some of the entertaining stories that can come from a life time of shooting. He'll be missed not only for his shooting skills, but for his wonderful friendly attitude toward all.

So long Marcy, and tell St. Peter you're not checking in your Hunter rifle before you enter...

Marcy Lyons

I met Marcy Lyons one time, that was when I first started shooting Benchrest. It was back in 2000 I believe. There is an old saying,"You don't get a second chance to make a first impression". Marcy was good at making first impressions. He told me a lot about the History of the Sport of Benchrest. Somebody told me that he practiced Law. You would never suspect that,after meeting him at a Benchrest Match

He was truly one of the good guys. RIP my friend.

Hunter. That was a great Obit. Marcy was very special, for sure.

Marcy and I meet at Dietz Range during a Texas State Championship 1984...we became friends there and stayed in touch over the years. He was a fine man and a great ambassador for the sport of score shooting...I greatly admired his ability and wish to be as accomplished...he was (to me) the Michael Jordan of Hunter Rifle shooters..

Although I never meet Marcy in person, I felt like I knew him, as I and my fellow shooters would compete against Marcy and his gang of Ragin Cajuns, through the IBS Transcontinental League. It is with great respect that I send my prayers to his family. We have been diminished.

Dear Sir or Ma'am,

I was just forwarded a link to your message board for Benchrest shooters that was about my dad, Marcy Lyons, and his recent passing. It was entitled, "Marcy Lyons has left the range."

I just wanted to say thank you to the original poster, James M, for posting the information and for his kind comments as well as all of the other kind comments by his fellow message board members.

My father, loved his benchrest shooting, loved hosting shooters from all over the country in Lafayette for the annual Crawfish Invitational and loved traveling throughout the country to shoot. Most of all I think he valued the friendships he made throughout his decades of shooting. It is a comfort to us to know that he was so well thought of!

If you could post a word of thanks from his family or repost my words, I would greatly appreciate it.
