Horror Stories
There are a lot of "Shipyard Horror Stories".The best one was the boy's across the bay at Mare Island managed to sink a sub at the pier. They were pumping water in for ballast and it was riding pretty low, which was O.K., except someone had left a deck hatch open.
Mare Island actually made nuke boats for the Navy for a time. It eventually closed and now all the sub's are made at Electric Boat on the east coast.
