M29 serial number

Picked up a S&W M29-2 in nickel finish with the box an can't find on the net a place to find out when it was made. Can anyone help me? Serial number N 820xxx.

Thanks Glenn. I thought of you after I posted this thinking you'd probably know when it was made. There is a book on S&W serial numbers an I figured someone here would have the book and look it up for me. If I decide to let it go for $200 I'll let you know.

"The Book" is the STANDARD CATALOG of SMITH & WESSON by Supica/Nahas. The current (3rd) edition shows serial #s starting w/N800000 being shipped '80-'83.

A $50.00 factory letter will tell you the actual SHIPPING date and destination and list any original special features.

Jeff. Last year ran across a Smith 28-2 45 ACP. for $580. Great for pins and plates.
Looks to be incomplete and sold as used. Tore it apart. Looked pretty new to me. Shimmed the cylinder and lock-tite on screws. Shoots great.
On a rest 21' or 50yd. same hold all in bulls eye.
I'll bring it to WWCCA on Friday. You can be my guest on the 25 yd range. :)
